Nestled in the vibrant cityscape, this hidden gem promises an authentic Caribbean culinary journey that truly sets it apart. My recent experience at Donna's left me thoroughly enchanted, and I can't wait to share all the savory details.
The morning began with the enticing aroma of the sea and sunshine wafting through the air as I stepped into Donna's. The vibrant and cozy ambiance immediately transported me to the shores of the Caribbean. What intrigued me the most was their breakfast menu, an assortment of tropical delights that promised a hearty start to the day. From classic options to unique island-inspired creations, there was something to satisfy every craving.
As my taste buds embarked on this journey, I was pleasantly surprised by the delightful array of options. The "Jamaican Sunrise Platter" instantly caught my eye, featuring a medley of perfectly seasoned ackee and saltfish, fluffy bammy cakes, and a side of fried plantains. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors, a symphony of tastes that whisked me away to a Caribbean paradise.
However, what truly elevated my dining experience was the impeccable service provided by a waitress named Marcella. Her warm smile and genuine enthusiasm added an extra layer of charm to the already inviting atmosphere. Marcella's knowledge of the menu, coupled with her attentive nature, made me feel like a welcomed guest rather than just a customer. Her recommendations, including the "Coconut Spice Pancakes," showcased her passion for the cuisine and added an extra flair to my breakfast.
The "Coconut Spice Pancakes" were a revelation—a stack of fluffy pancakes infused with coconut milk and a hint of island spices. Topped with fresh mango slices and a drizzle of passionfruit syrup, each bite was a dance of flavors that left me craving for more. Marcella's thoughtful suggestion truly highlighted the restaurant's commitment to delivering an authentic Caribbean culinary experience.

Read moreI was very disappointed with this particular location. It was my first time here and I specifically tried this location on its name sake after having tried the one in Miami Gardens on 27th ave. The food at the one on 27th ave was great and an expression of true Caribbean cooking. On the contrary, this one on 2nd ave was quite the disappointment all around. The food (rice, cabbage) was bland in taste. I got the king fish and that was the tip of horrible. It was 1) bland in taste 2) the fish seemed to have been sitting a while and perhaps heated too many times so it was hard and dry. 3) it was originally served cold and heated at my request in a microwave; evidence of my suspicion in 2). That didn’t help none. Disappointed and not up for any disruption of my inner peace. I just threw it away and left. Sides: the fried plantain was the best thing on the plate (given). The salad was a handful of lettuce….. sigh. I ate with a friend and my understanding was that their plate (jerk chicken, plantain and salad) was not much different in taste than mine. The service was cordial and the atmosphere...
Read moreIf you want terrible service and possible spoiled food look no further. The ladies working here are some of the rudest employees I have ever encountered but hey if the food was worth it I can over look bad staff. The food is flavorless, unseasoned not hot or fresh . This location smells of mildew and desperation. I would actually want a health code inspector to come check it out . I literally bought meals for myself and my family to $35.10 to be disappointed and still hungry. I had to basically throw EVERYTHING away and go else where . Like honeslty not being dramatic the meat had a smell too it . STAY AWAY FROM THE CURRY GOAT . It smelt horrid like its been seating out for 5 days under a heat lamp BAD. This happened friday and I am still fuming mad as I really feel the staff and owner has given up and cares less about his quality, his staff and his consumers . STAY away eating from a dumpster would be a...
