I was originally going to look for a local Cuban restaurant, (like I always do when I roll into Miami), but decided to give this little, family-owned Nigerian restaurant a try. Three words - it was amazing! The owners (a wonderful husband and wife) prepared a full plate that wouldāve been enough to feed me for the next two days. As I always do, I respectfully requested that they choose my meal for me. I wasnāt disappointed. Beef, roasted goat, chicken, spinach, jollof rice, and fried plantains - When I tell you that the meal stood 6 inches off the plate, itās not an exaggeration. (And they didnāt forget the ice cold bottle of water to put out the fire in my stomach) š„ š§
I spoke to them both, shortly after finishing my meal and thanked them for an amazing experience. I really liked being there, as they really took the time to explain their culture and cooking to someone with a very limited exposure to their cultural heritage. And, I guess, that was really part of the ambiance of the place for me. It was a simple dining setup, but filled with culture. I enjoy traveling the country, and experiencing different people of different nationalities, their cultural practices & history, and the ethnic food that comes along with it all.
My stomach is full, and itās time for a nap. Iāll certainly by stopping by Mama Sheriās again, on my next trip...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI never leave negative comments for my people but, this restaurant is horrible. Please donāt eat there food. Iām on vacation and was craving my culture food. Ordered from this restaurant and my daughter and I got extremely sick. I ordered okra stew. As you can see in my picture this looks like fish soup no okra. Crazy Part is okra is a cheap vegetable how can you make a soup that you consider okra with no okra. Iām writing this message in the emergency room. Please donāt eat here, something about there kitchen isnāt sanitary. I was better off eating the Hispanic food. Way better choice than this. Iāve eaten from black owned soul food restaurants and lots of Hispanic restaurants all the food was good in Florida. The day I try my own peopleās food they messed up my entire vacation because I feel sick as a dog after only 3 bites. My daughter only took 1. I believe I got food poisoning from this soup. If I can give this restaurant 0 stars I will. The biggest disappointment in African culture. Please share all over social media so people can never...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe manager or woman in charge was nice, welcoming, and attentive. She also has a sense of humor, which was nice.
There was also a waitress... a Spanish-speaking somewhat elderly lady with big and seemingly FULL bewbs behind her snug shirt. At least size DD, I'm thinking. This has nothing to do with the food, but It was a nice aspect to the visit š
I ordered the okro soup (assorted meats) with pounded yam fufu, a bottle of palm wine, and Jamaican ginger beer. The meats in the soup had too many big bones, and the soup itself needed more Maggi, salt, and pepper. However they provided akabanga hot oil and salt, and I was happy. The fufu had a nice even consistency, not too hard and not too soft.
The restaurant is in a convenient location, easily accessible via public transit and ride shares. The "store" part of the place also has a variety of random useful ingredients and products. If I ever revisit Miami, I'll be sure to dine AND shop at this...
