Let me begin by saying that it truly pains me to write this review and am writing it to bring attention to management and hope for a change and awareness in this behavior. I’ve been going to Miller’s Ale House Miami Lakes since I was a child and have never had a bad experience until yesterday. So to say I was shocked and appalled is an understatement.
Additionally, I have been a server myself for 4 years so I feel like I know not only how to treat a fellow server but also the etiquette of how one should deal with the public.
I went with my mom and dad that I had not seen in 5 years on January 10th 2025 at around 4:20PM more or less. We wanted to celebrate this emotional reunion at my favorite restaurant. We sat outside.
I don’t know our server’s name that attended us but I can only describe her as a full figured white woman, and I’m sure she remembers us and this encounter.
My parents ordered a bucket of beer. I ordered a Prickly Pear Margarita and was asked for ID. I know I look young for my age but I am also 25 years old and with my parents at a family setting on a Friday afternoon. Now, I get following protocol, so when I realized I left my ID I just ordered water. My mom though, was insistent and looked for my passport photo that she has on her phone.
Let me clarify, the issue wasn’t that I couldn’t drink an alcohol beverage. Like I said, I’m was a server myself and I understand importance of following rules like this to avoid any mishaps. It was the way that the server was so blatantly rude to my mother that shocked me and my dad.
When the server came back with the bucket of beer my mom kindly showed her my passport. At the end of the day anyone can understand, she’s my mom and wanted to do anything to ensure we all had a great time even if the difference was just a drink for me. Any mother would try to just in case.
The server said she can’t accept it. “No I can’t. It’s illegal” she literally spat out in the rudest tone. The way she said it was as if it was a grand inconvenience for her to have to even have to explain it. We all were immediately uncomfortable and appalled.
There are so many ways as a server that one could go about it. “I’m so sorry I would love to but I can’t accept it to avoid trouble” or “Let me talk to my manager to see if I am able to accept it” ANYTHING was better than how she spoke to my mother.
I don’t know if she was having a bad shift, day, or just didn’t like us from the jump but it was extremely uncalled for. Besides, as a server you should know not to reflect any personal issues you may have to a consumer.
Not only was the response rude but my dad and I (from where we sat) saw her walk over to another coworker and motion her displeasure with us. If there are outdoor cameras to review I’m sure this was obvious.
Now how were we as a family going to continue our to enjoy our time there and ask her for anything else after that? My mom said she was not having it that we were leaving, understandably I think. They did not consume a single drop of what was brought out. I’m not sure what my mom told her but she did inform her that we were leaving and she sarcastically told us “Have a good day”. How strange to say this to clearly upset customers that you treated with indecency for trying to inquire about identification, and with sarcasm no less.
Im writing this review because it was truly upsetting to me and my family. You never know what people are going through and all we wanted was a wholesome family dinner at my favorite restaurant after not seeing each other for years. Instead met with rudeness from this server FOR NO REASON. We are not only kind and understanding people but speaking in a business perspective we are also paying customers looking for decent service, which we couldn’t even get in the span of ten minutes or less that we were there.
I am not looking for spite or to call anyone out unnecessarily. I hope you can understand where my heart is as I write this review. Thank you in advance for reading and hearing me out in any...
Read moreI never leave reviews like this for restaurants but today the service was just so horrible that I had to do it and I hope this helps them make improvements with their curbside service. I ordered curbside pick up tonight around 8:40pm and got an email saying my order would be ready at 9:19pm. I get there and I end up waiting for my order for almost an hour. I got there 10 minutes early so I didn’t mind waiting a bit but after waiting for 40 minutes in my car with no one even coming up to my car to apologize for the wait, I got off to ask about my order. I asked the girl with the short hair that was standing outside with the clipboard and all she said was “it’s not ready yet”. She didn’t even go check on my order or even apologize for the long wait and I saw her go in multiple times before I even got off but she couldn’t quickly go inside to see when my order would be ready. I went back in my car hoping my order would come out soon and still nothing. Then when it got to 50 minutes I got off again. It’s ridiculous that I’d been waiting that long, especially considering the fact that AT LEAST 10 CARS came and left since I had been there. I was also extremely nice and patient considering I only got off TWICE to ask about my order when I had been waiting for one hour. I got off again and told her that I had been waiting for 50 minutes and all she said was “yeah we are really packed”. She still didn’t apologize or go check on my order. I stood there waiting when finally one of the other girls came up to me and said she would go check on my order and then when she came back she had my order with her. If it wasn’t for her checking on my order who knows how much longer I would’ve been waiting. I was about to go cancel my order because of the frustration but thankfully the other girl was able to help me, I wish I knew her name but she had long black braided hair. Thanks to her I didn’t cancel my order and leave empty handed after waiting for one hour. And on top of all that they forgot to put the vegetables I ordered as a side for my salmon but I wasn’t going to wait another hour just for that. I hope this helps improve their service, probably will never order curbside...
Read moreDisheartening Experience of Racial Profiling at Miller’s Ale House
I recently dined at Miller’s Ale House with friends, and unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable evening was tainted by a disheartening encounter that involved racial profiling.
During our meal, we experienced a high-level service, but it was when we were leaving that things took a troubling turn. As we approached our vehicle in the parking lot, we were approached by a server named Taylor. It seemed odd for a staff member to follow us outside, and what followed felt both intrusive and uncomfortable.
Taylor approached our car and questioned us about our experience in a way that felt accusatory rather than genuine. Her tone was pointed, and it was clear that she was assessing us in a manner that felt unjust. We hadn’t done anything wrong; we were simply patrons enjoying our time out. The interaction was unsettling and left me with a deep sense of unease, especially considering that the attention we received felt disproportionate compared to other patrons leaving the restaurant that evening.
This experience highlighted a broader issue that is pervasive in our society — the unfortunate reality of racial profiling. It was disappointing to feel that the server’s assumptions were based on our appearance rather than our behavior as customers.
While I appreciate that all establishments strive to ensure the integrity of their dining environment, it’s crucial that staff are trained to engage with all customers respectfully and without bias. No one should feel unwelcome or scrutinized, especially after simply going out to enjoy a meal.
Miller’s Ale House needs to address this issue to ensure that all guests feel safe and respected. I hope this review encourages the restaurant to reflect on their practices and provide the necessary training to ensure that incidents like this do not happen in the future.
For those considering dining at Miller’s Ale House, be mindful that experiences can vary significantly. I sincerely hope that the establishment will take steps to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all patrons. Until then, I cannot in good conscience recommend...
