Its difficult to begin my review without touching on the sensitive subject of the use of english language in Miami. However, without losing ones pride of there latin heritage. That being said i will leave that subject of language aside and state that my review is based on my experience in addition to the food. the food: in a word - delicious! From the appetizer to the main course, everything looked and tasted fresh. Not one sauce tasted as if it came out of a pre-made jar. I would recommend going with the tostones with crab on top. Very delicious and tasty! I also had the 3 layer ceviche and it was amazing. The fish was fresh, tasted well with the nice mix of tangy liquid. The sweet potato balanced out the tanginess. All in all very delicious and will come here (for the food) again. The experience: the decor and layout is pretty nice, white, tiled and pretty comfortable chairs. A lot of tables but you dont feel like youre on top of one another. The greeting was pleasant. My waiter Eloy started off great, even asked (since I began responding in english) that if he should continue in english or spanish. I dont speak Spanish very well so we all decided lets go with English. Eloy made us all feel included and explained the entire specials and menu in Engish. As the evening progressed my family, who speaks spanish very fluently, naturally (as how many people do in Miami) started to speak spanish to Eloy. Naturally, Eloy responded in spanish as well, but thats when things started to go awry as I began to feel outcasted as from that point on. Communications from Eloy regarding food selections were to my family, not me, and in spanish. In fact, there was even murmurs in spanish between Eloy and one family member talking about me. I wasn't phased at all and moved on until the end of the night. Eloy specifically looked towards my family and (continuing in spanish) wished them a very happy holidays and a new year, only to glance at me and walk away. They say one mostly remembers experiences at the beginning and end - the end of my expeirence wasnt pleasant and i did not feel included. My review is mainly to share my experience in hopes that the staff of an establishment refine their customer service skills that is more inclusive. I am very sure its rare an english speaker comes to a Miami Lakes restaurant, but when they do make please help them feel just as special as the locals. I will be returning because the food was delicious and my overall experience was good, but what is a shame was my...
Read morePlenty of parking, located at a shopping plaza near palmetto miami lakes exit with a McDonalds at entrance. Decor was quaint with graffiti style walls. Not a fan of the fly in the air but it’s not their fault since it was Miami in the summer and opening doors is a hazard anywhere. This Peruvian restaurant has many ceviche (raw seafood) dishes but also has cooked options.
I did appreciate the Knick knacks of famous Mexican Tv characters from “chavo del ocho” sketch show. Made me nostalgic.
The achulada sushi roll was really good (all cooked ingredients such as fried shrimp, smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado and strawberry). My fruit drink was natural smoothie of mango, strawberry, and passion fruit.
The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the fried seafood platter (jalea Del Mar) because they used beer batter which is too thick and heavy for me and the calamari, shrimp and mussels were over cooked and dried. The fried fish was ok but I still didn’t like the batter although frying oil was fresh and it was fried at a decent temperature.
My sister got a passion fruit cocktail (marajito) and the liquor was strong so I wasn’t into it.
Dessert was awesome. The chocolate cake was fluffy and moist (homemade) with fresh dulce de leche but the vanilla ice cream was not creamy at all.
The service is good and plate presentation is beautiful but some dishes can be hit or miss. I didn’t pay the bill but my mom says prices are usually high here.
My sister liked her short rib with pinto beans and rice but I found the beef over cooked.
Bathrooms are two single stalls with plenty of room but as a germ-a-phobe I didn’t like that they only had a hand dryer and no paper towels so I had to use my scarf to open the doors to get out. There is no point in washing my hands before eating if I get them dirty opening the door. They have diaper changing tables in the female stall (for mothers who wish to know).
I will come back to try other dishes but with more time to look over the menu because I felt pressured to order with my sister and didn’t know my dish...
Read moreThis was our 3rd time dining here and we enjoyed the last two times we were here. However, this experience was so unexpectedly bad that we will likely not come back. The reason for this is the waiter intentionally witheld information about a particular menu item. I ordered the Pescado a lo Macho and the waiter Gerardo asked which fish I wanted to order. I did not know which fish to order so I asked Gerado which he recommended. Unbeknownst to be, the two options are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT in price, with one costing more than double of the other. However, Gerardo failed to mention this and just said that BOTH were good options. The way he spoke about the dish made it seem like they were just two alternatives that cost the same 18 dollars. Wouldn't that be the perfect time to mention that one has a steep price increase than the other? The meal itself was good if it was 18 dollars but I finally noticed in the final bill that I was charged 38 dollars. When I asked Gerardo about this and that I had no clue one option cost more, he simply said "Yes because one is the whole fish". Well I assumed it was the same price because the menu makes NO INDICATION that there is more than one option and that is the specific item I asked for. The waiter should make it clear that something costs more if the menu does not. Not only did Gerardo not mention the price increase but he did not apologize or admit that he was not clear on the price, leading me to believe he willingly withheld the price of the menu item. I will not be returning to a place whose staff fails to even have the basic communication required...
