I had to wait until I ate everything that I bought to sit down and write a sound review. So this morning I awoke knowing that I wanted conch salad today. Of course, I went on Yelp and did search for "conch salad" to see what popped up in my area as the results. I also was determined to try something new instead of going to my favorite go to restaurants. Anywho a bunch of places came up, this being one of them and I read the reviews before making a decision. I took note of the time it opened, what I had to do and planned my day. I figured by the time I get done running the few errands that I needed to, they would be good and open for business...WRONG!
One thing about me is that I am a stickler about time, especially MY time. I pulled up, parked at the church and proceeded to walk to the restaurant. yanks on the door It's locked. I note the time on the door for Saturday; 11:00am-10:pm. Now keep in mind this is even earlier than what Yelp is reporting as the opening time which is 11:30am. So i sat in my car for bit. Luckily about 15 minutes later a car pulls up and two females get out. I initially thought they were patrons but when they didn't come back, I walked back over to the restaurant and pulled on the door again; still locked. This time one of the young lady's who I saw pull up, came to the door and informed me that they weren't open yet. I then asked what time would they be opened, she replied "the grease have to heat up first." So i say "30-45 minutes?" She replies yes. So I told her that I'd wait. This happened at 12:30. A whole hour after the Yelp reported opening time and an hour and a half after their posted opening time.
So I go back to my car and wait. Maybe about 15 minutes later the other female that I witnessed pull up, left. I thought she was perhaps just dropping the other girl off but she came back with some supplies from the store. I later learned, once I finally made it inside, that she was the cook; but we haven't gotten there yet. Now it's just shy of 40 minutes and I call this time instead of walking to the front of the restaurant and ask if they were open. Again I am told no and asked when would they be open. She told me "in a few minutes." Fifty minutes later I was finally able to pull on the door handle and it opened.
The place itself is kind of small but that doesn't bother me because I'm never looking to eat in anyway with this type of food; especially since I live so close. They have a bench for people waiting to get their food though. To get the full experience, I ordered the conch salad, fried conch and flop. These were all of the things that people left reviews about that were good and they weren't wrong.Let's talk about the conch and fries. I asked for my conch to fried hard. It wasn't fried hard to my liking but it was fine. It was seasoned to perfection and was plentiful. I even have some left over because I got full. The fries even had some seasoning to it. The flop was great. It wasn't as sweet as someone had claimed it to be but then again maybe I'm that weird person that like my drinks to be sweet. Who knows? Now the conch salad was beyond on point; it was mouth-tastic. One of the best, glad it's close to my house, conch salad's that I have had in awhile. It was already pre-seasoned and while it was close to being too salty for my taste buds, it was still delicious. I hate that they only had the one. I even asked but she said the person wasn't making anymore. So I was sure to take that one. I initially planned to buy two. If I don't come back for nothing else, I coming back for that conch salad.
For everything, I spent $23 and it was worth every penny. The 3 stars are primarily for the length of time I had to wait. They either need to do a better job of opening on time or adjust their business hours b/c between Yelp and their posted hours, it is a little misleading. Next time I come, I will be sure 2 come well into the afternoon. And a word of advice 2 you all, don't come so close 2 their opening time (whichever that is). Give them some time to open and get...
Read moreFirst timer hereâŚSaturday afternoon. No designated parking or a place to sit in and eat. I called in my order. The phone operator didnât say where I was calling just â hello? Hello?!!â I asked if it was âconch it upâ and he said yeaâŚthe call disconnected and then I called back and was transferred to a female who took my order. There is no customer service here at all. Communication is poor, no greeting when you enter. The girls at the counter are inattentive and Impolite. When My order was ready the girl never mentioned it, they had just set it on the counter, despite me sitting right in front of them. Someone else had to let me know it was ready. All orders are cooked to order- youâre basically paying first before your food is cooked. I would have preferred to have to just pick up my order and go but I had to wait for it. I ordered Shrimp Conch and fries for $24.96, the menus online specifically pricing are incorrect and need to be updated. The food had a nice flavor - not wow factor but good. For me it was a small quantity for what you pay- I canât say itâs really worth it. Customer service is important to me, I wonât return to a restaurant where it lacks this much. Conch it up, you have...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped here on a whim and we are both so happy we did. This place is a hidden gem. First, the owner is so very friendly. She took the time to speak with and get to know us.
Both my wife and I finished up a honeymoon cruise, and had a craving for conch. Google thankfully pointed us here. We both ordered the a conch salad, and the Conch dinner plate. I had peas and rice and the shrimp and crab salad, while she got the Mac and cheese and potato salad. Holy cow!!!! The whole plate is phenomenal. I'm writing this review while enjoying the food. The portion sizes are way bigger than I expected, but more importantly is the flavor. We've never had potato salad this good. The peas and rice is literally the best I've ever had in a restaurant. The shrimp and crab & the conch salad are perfect. The fried conch is not greasy and so flavorful. If you've read this review and haven't tried Conch It Up, stop what you're doing, get in/on your preferred mode of transportation, and come here. What are you waiting for? You will...
