As far as food places go in the gables, this place is a nice change and adds variety to the regular tastes. As far as a Colombian food place goes, it is sub par at best. Colombian food is usually known for their large portions and well seasoned food but this place does not do well in those aspects. I had the mojara and the bandeja paisa. Both Colombian dishes that are staples in any menu. The Mojara was a very savory sweet water fish and was cooked well but The sides where bland and did not complement the taste of the fish. The bandeja paisa was very small portioned and did not fill me at all. The pork chicharon was flavorless and the smallest portion of the entire plate. I ordered the churasco with it but I’m sure it was the saddest piece they had, it was thin and half cold. None of the juiciness of a typical churasco. I ordered a mojito and I was disappointed that the bar also had a bad staff. They made the first one too sweet and the second one didn’t have the passion fruit maracuya flavor as the menu advertised. The staff is rather incompetent. They are unable to listen to basic requests. For example I ordered three waters they only brought two to the table and I had to share mine. When I returned the mojito for having too much sugar I asked them to just give me a cup of water they brought me another one which I didn’t even want at that point. It’s a shame to see that coral gables high prices and brunch culture has destroyed all authenticity of a Colombian restaurant. I have eaten at many Colombian restaurants all through the east coast, and this one is a lot the...
Read moreWe went because it is supposedly the new name and location for Monserrate, one of the best Colombian restaurants in Miami for years. Totally wrong.
The place itself is dark and has nothing in the decor that makes you think of Colombia other than a flag hanging on the wall.
The service was mediocre. For example, our server went mostly around the table (group of 8) and then left to enter the orders without asking the last person for her order. We had to call her back. Then when the food came out they actually brought her the wrong meal. She said they didn't have what was ordered (European Salad which is salad with tuna on top) so they brought out a salad with chicken on top instead. That's nuts.
Similar story for desert where only half the table was asked for their order. Our side had no idea they had ordered until they were being served so we had to call her back to order for the other half of the table.
The chicharrón was so dry and hard it was inedible and the empanadas were overcooked. My chicken was also overcooked and tough.
When we ordered guacamole she said they didn't have any (it's on the menu) but they did have avocados, the main ingredient for guacamole. Either they buy pre-made guacamole and ran out or they were lazy and didn't feel like taking the 5 minutes it takes to whip up an order.
I see lots of reviews saying how good the food is here. All I can say is, if they are true then the quality and service is VERY unpredictable. You don't want to be the one to come on a bad day like we did.
