Wow!!! My hubby and I have driven by here for the past couple of months and he always mentioned wanting to try it. Based on the google review photos, I kind of got sports bar vibes (not sure why?) and I don’t really eat meat so I wasn’t too keen on coming by.
He ended up having a guys night here last week and they loved it! He texted me the menu with the words “They have a yuca bowl” lol! Knowing they had a non-meat option was comforting!
So I finally caved and we came for a date night tonight! OMGosh, I loved it so much! This is for sure one of our new go to’s!
FOOD: We ordered the yuca bowl (of course), Mac and cheese side, cornbread with honey butter side, and the hubs got a brisket taco (it was massive!) plus a La Rubia beer, an old fashioned + tip for $60! We didn’t leave full or with leftovers but we both felt satisfied! Can I just say, everything we tried was delicious!! The Mac and cheese came with queso cheese, which I’m also not a huge fan of but I loved it! The queso was subtle and not over powering, and the breadcrumbs are always a great perk to Mac and cheese! The yuca bowl was to die for! The Cole slaw + avocado cream + yuca combination tasted so fresh, we couldn’t stop eating! The old fashioned was strong and my hubs thought the taco was great (his go to responses are good and ok, so great is a big deal)! Meaty, juicy and tender. I would love to see maybe 1 or 2 more non-meat options on the menu, considering a protein since yuca is more of a starch!
ATMOSPHERE: The entire restaurant is located within a warehouse but so nicely decorated. The decor is simple, industrial and quaint. There is indoor and two outdoor seating areas but even the indoor portion had the big windows open. We sat in the back outdoor space and it was the perfect night! Not hot, and occasionally got a nice breeze from the ac indoors. The indoor had what looked like yard lights on the roof (so cute!), and the outdoor had shades tied to the palm trees, which I’m sure come in handy while the sun is out!
COVID PRECAUTIONS: All the staff members were wearing their masks. They have COVID rules clearly displayed! (See photo) Each table had red/green coins to notify if it had been disinfected or not. Each table had its own hand sanitizer and all tables were well distanced from one another. I felt very safe! As mentioned previously, they had plenty of indoor and two outdoor spaces! (Front and back) The cutlery was all single-use for easy disposal except for a washable plastic cup the old fashioned came in. Otherwise we were given paper plates and napkins (!!) and plastic utensils (¡¡). The food came in paper bowls on metal trays.
SERVICE: I really appreciated the order of their service. You place your entire order at the window, get your drinks, utensils and a number, seat yourself and they bring you your food. It was perfect! Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed when waiters are either too attentive or not attentive enough and you are trying to ask for missing items but since we had placed our whole order upfront it helped avoid that! All the staff we interacted with were awesome! From the counter to those who brought out our food, and on the way out we even started a conversation with the Manager, Michelle! What a sweetheart!
If I couldn’t brag enough, I even loved their branding. So cool, great colors, great attention to detail! Logo, typography, backgrounds. So great!
The entire concept of Hometown BBQ is awesome! Can’t wait until we come...
Read moreWe heard about this restaurant grand opening on Friday, 9/20 so me and 3 of my coworkers decided to go.
This location is located in the warehouse district of Miami's Allapattah neighborhood.
First I have to say that the parking is horrendous it took us about 3 circles around the restaurant to find a parking space.
So being our first time visiting we were told to place our order at the front register and they would give us a number to put on our table and the food would be brought to us.
We asked about drinks and we were told that we had to go to the bar across the room to order drinks. I got the orders and proceeded to go to the bar area. I ordered 2 cokes and the whopping total was $8 dollars for 2 small 6 oz glasses of Coke and subtract the ice we had about a 5 oz soda for $4 bucks each.
No, it gets better.
We're at our table waiting for our food, oh yeah we mostly wanted the ribs only to find out they didn't have anymore...disappointing yes, but being that we had already wasted 30 minutes of our lunch we decided to stay.
We ordered 3 brisket sandwiches, a mac and cheese, bbq beans and the smoked wings ($74 bucks).
An employee brought our food out on a tray with paper under the food, I'm like seriously (picture will be attached). We asked do we get plates, utensils, napkins???? She was like yes they are over by the bar (clearing my throat).
Yes, we were supposed to get them ourselves and 2 of my coworkers wanted water and that too is over by the bar (self service). So in between eating one of us would refill our water glasses.
Now to the food...
The brisket sandwiches should have been called a hard roll with bits of brisket inside we ate the little brisket meat thatvwas inside the hard roll and it was just ok.
The smoked wings were just that smoked with a lot of salt yuck, there were 6 we left 3 whole and three barely eaten.
The smoked pit beans, all I can say is never mind!
The mac and cheese is the reason for the 1 star it was pretty good.
Overall my take on this place is for the amount that we paid and the level of effort we had to put in, to have a peaceful meal was definitely not worth it, when you are charging the amount we paid we should not have to get up thru the meal to get napkins, etc...
Me and my coworkers never complain about prices as long as the food is on the level of what we paid, the food and service MUST match.
I can say I/we decided to never visit this...
Read moreI’ve heard such great things about this place I decided to stop by on my lunch. My 1st impression was the flies buzzing around the tables, that was a big turn off. I almost left but decided to stay and give this place a shot. I ordered six wings and potatoes salad. It came up to $25 bucks which I thought was a bit pricey but I heard this place was good so I was willing to spend it. I’m not a big fan of mayo so I’m usually careful when I order potato salad. It was a creamy potatoe salad, no potatoe chunks, it had bits of onion, and it had a very vinegary flavor. Not bad but not my style. The wings were good, I got the bbq flavor the other flavor choices were buffalo sauce and mole dust served with cilantro, queso fresco and poblano crema. They had sauces available on the table hot & bbq. They were both very good. The best part of my meal was the drink 🍹 😋 The bartender was Jason and he was very knowledgeable about the drinks I asked a few questions and decided to get the cucumber margarita. It came with a long, thin slice of cucumber 🥒 and a lime 🍋🟩 I think that was the best margarita I’ve ever had. And even tho I I arrived a little before 3 Jason was cool enough to give me the happy hour price. Even tho I liked the food and drink and the servers were very polite I definitely won’t be returning bc of the flies and gnats. I was fighting them off from every direction. They were buzzing around my food and drink. They landed on the side of my plate and napkin a few times nd even on me. I wasn’t able to finish the potato salad bc a fly landed on it. Not around the side of the cup but on the actual food. I would’ve stayed and got a few more drinks but the flies and gnats literally pushed me out the door. Idk if it’s always like that or if maybe they had a delivery and the door was left open but I definitely will not be returning bc of the flying insect problem. I would recommend this place but definitely bring a fly swatter and some extra napkins or baby wipes if you get the bbq. Check me out on IG or TT...
