We had a reservation for 8 pm and were expecting a romantic dinner at the Inn. We were seated in the "library", a side room with an uncoordinated mix of second hand thrift store books, at a table in the far corner, with harsh lighting and no ambiance or music. We were the only couple in that room for the entire evening. When trying to select a bottle of wine, the somelier told us to go ahead and read the list that was on the table. In the meantime he went to the dining room and spoke at length to other couples about his recommendations and pairings to food options on the menu. Then the waitress entered and told us to put our masks back on even though we were the only couple in the room. On the porch and the main dining room nobody was required to wear their masks, this made us feel discriminated against. The crab and corn bisque was good and the fried green tomatoes were mostly breading and just laid flat on the plate without garnish and not arranged as you would expect at a high priced restaurant. The peanut pasta was drowning in butter and difficult to finish. I had asked for no peppers due to me being allergic to it, yet the chef made no effort to accommodate my wish and the plate was full of peppers. The waitress said "you can just pick them out". My wife ordered the vegetable stack which was delicious and made well, however it was accompanied with rice which was the wrong grain pairing, farro or polenta would have been a better compliment. When we were finished eating we were forgotten in the "library" and had to wait for 15 minutes to get the check and pay for our meal. Our experience was not that of a 5, 4 or even 3 star restaurant and I cannot recommend...
Read moreWent here as a member of a party of 4. We called earlier in the day (we before they opened) to make reservations for that night. A group had essentially reserved the entire restaurant from 7PM onward, so we would be allowed to dine assuming we left prior to 7PM so they could get the table ready. The restaurant was not the largest (probably can seat 40 people max) but a decent size for an Inn in Middlebury. The food quality quite good, but the portions were lacking given the prices.
It appears to dine here reservations are a must, even though I did not think the service was that great. The waitress did a fine job but was not personable. Some of the people in my party are very talkative and enjoy getting to know their waiter/waitress. It definitely appeared their main goal was to get us out of their as fast as possible (even if we did rack up a $450 bill in that hour). The food is good but be wary of the service. I might go back here again when they don't have a large party coming in to give them another shot, but there are many other great restaurants in Middlebury that seem more comfortable and pleasant...
Read moreI did not think to take pictures. Here’s why. We had a dinner party of 9, on Saturday night, Feb 17, 2024. The second you walk in the door, you are greeted with a cozy fire in the fireplace, in a quaint living room type area. You are greeted promptly and coats were taken. We walked over to the bar and had a few drinks. Also a very cozy area, great seating. Fantastic drinks. Once we had a drink, we moved into our dining area, which was in the library, again very cozy, lovely fireplace with a warming fire. The folks taking care of us were wonderful. We all had different things on the menu, from several appetizers, warm bread with a delightful olive oil garlic dip and more drinks. Our meals were varied and I won’t explain them all here, but they were ALL amazing. Dessert was equally fantastic. We sat for about three hours enjoying ourselves and were not rushed out. So, to end how I started, we did not take pictures because we were so engrossed in our evening, enjoying drinks and food as well as such a homey, comfy environment. I would totally recommend dining here. Put the phone down and just enjoy...
