Nickel and Dime... Nickel and Dime... that's the theme at this place. I love what they've done with the renovations, but here expect to pay a lot and get a little. And let's be honest, these tex-mex places are a commodity nowadays, so you need to be competitive with pricing, regardless of having to pay for renovations...
We were there recently for lunch and it seems like everything has shrunk. The basket of chips is tiny for a table of 4, and then they charge you after your second basket. I would understand if we just ordered some apps, but we ordered 2 bowls of the overly-priced queso! I ordered the street tacos and the corn tortillas were the smallest I've ever seen... maybe 3" in diameter. My wife ordered a Chimichanga and charged extra for steak in it. No place does that... Presentation was lacking, and the bill was 30% higher than El Patron or any other place in the tri-county area.
We only went here since El Patron in Chardon doesnt open till 3 on Sundays, but we wont make this mistake again.
Ownership: Here's a quick business tip... Dont nickel and dime customers, just charge slightly more and bury the cost (too late on that front..). Otherwise it leaves a...
Read moreThis place started out decent by bringing salsa and coleslaw with the chips, instead of the usual, salsa only. But the salsa didn't have much of a flavor to it, nor did the chips. The service was slow, which most Mexican places I've been, is usually quite fast. It didn't seem to be that busy. There was a decent crowd, but plenty of empty seats. The food took a while to come out, again, different than most Mexican places. My kid got fries, I know, not a typical Mexican dish, but they should still come out hot or on the hotter side of warm, but they weren't. They were warm, but seemed like they were sitting back there for a while. My plate came out last, about 2 to 3 minutes after my wife's. The plate was super hot, so I thought, at least my food will be hot. Nope. Seemed to be a little warmer than warm. And the guacamole/sour cream was actually able to make it seem cold in spots. Idk, it wasn't a very good experience. Not what I'm used to for Mexican joints. Maybe it was just a bad night for me, but I would probably venture elsewhere if we were back in...
Read moreIn the area on a Friday night, craving (as usual) Mexican food. Was taken by locals to El Patron, which they said was a favorite of theirs. The staff seemed to know them, which was cool. They ordered their usual, which included (see photo) something called a Volcano. Pretty impressive! I ordered an entree which included one chicken and one beef burrito, I wish I'd checked to confirm shredded beef because I got ground beef, which was in a dark red sauce and terrible. I took one bite, and when the waiter asked if everything was ok, I gestured to the pushed-aside plate and said 'no, that was not good' but he smiled and went away. Shrug. The chicken burrito was excellent, so I'll give them a pass and order more carefully next time. The tortilla chips need work. They were thick, dry, unsalted, and easy to skip. Try that anywhere else, you just can't usually leave them alone. Friday night you sure could. Might try again, but will be wary of what I order and not afraid to ask for freshly made...
