Maryanne’s Homestyle Cooking in Levittown, PA is, without question, destination eating! Generous portions, good value, an attentive staff and an almost endless menu filled with amazing options characterized my breakfast visit to this landmark restaurant. We were greeted by Maryanne, the restaurant’s namesake, who was at the front desk/register. Maryanne is both delightful and rightly proud of this establishment. I very much enjoyed talking to her while waiting as well as after our meal.
The menu is a sight to behold! Eggs and Outrageous Omelettes and Breakfast Kitchen Combos and Benedicts and Pan-Fry Pile Ups and Pancakes and Holy Cannoli French Toast, Oh My!! I kept coming back to the Philly ‘Benedict’ which, I ultimately couldn’t resist ordering. This creative dish featured two pieces of toast with scrapple nestled in between, 2 scrambled eggs above the toast and velvety creamed chipped beef topping things off. Piping hot, creamy comfort food goodness! The accompanying home fries were both perfectly golden brown as well as seasoned. As I wasn’t dining alone, I also had an opportunity to taste Maryanne’s French Toast and bacon. Again, both were perfectly cooked and the French Toast had just the right amount of custard soaked into the bread. The coffee was piping hot and refills were no problem. One highlight: both of our meals were presented on heated plates. Folks, this makes all the difference allowing you to enjoy a meal that stays hot throughout. This was greatly appreciated!
The restaurant itself is divided into two cheerful sections and I was struck by the many large and cheerful groups happily eating, chatting and taking photos of each other with their phones while dining. Clearly, people like being here! Adding to the relaxed atmosphere is the absolute wonderland of Coca-Cola memorabilia that lines the walls and other display areas of the dining room. These items are fun to look at while you are waiting for your meal.
After 30+ years of experience, it is safe to say that the folks at Maryanne’s know breakfast and I therefore recommend this restaurant. I’m looking forward to future visits which will include trying the lunch menu.
If you go, Maryanne’s has ample parking available in front of this handicapped accessible restaurant which includes a ramp up onto the front sidewalk. Sunday’s are busy, particularly during peak morning hours, so a wait prior to being seated is possible. During my visit, complementary coffee was available in the entryway to help wake up those who...
Read moreI have been consistently visiting Maryanne's Homestyle Cooking for breakfast & lunch since they moved to their current location. Although the staff have changed over time, the interior has been modified, the one consistent thread throughout is the quality of the food they produce.
It is hard to pick what they specialize in when it comes to breakfast as it is always good. They utilize high quality ingredients and it is always fresh and hot.
The omelets, almost all of which are named after local streets in Levittown, are large and generous portions usually served with home fries. I recommend the meat lovers or Italian omelet.
The southern fried chicken with the white sausage gravy is some of the best southern style food you can get above the Mason-Dixon currently.
For fans of scrapple though, I do recommend the thin cut style. It has a nice crispy exterior with soft interior that is scrumptious.
Finally, for those that are unsure, there are daily specials where you can get a variety of great and classic breakfast foods to eat.
When it comes to lunch, it's hard to beat their homemade soups. I especially recommend getting the Italian Wedding soup, as it's phenomenal. It is served piping hot with tons of flavor. The Meatballs are generous in portion and combine a slight sweet and savory flavor.
Lastly, I would be amiss to mention the service. There is consistent dedication by the staff to make sure you have a great experience while here. Many times they have your refills before you even ask.
I highly recommend getting there early as the later you wait, the longer the line gets to be seated.
If you haven't tried Maryanne's, I highly recommend you come and give them a...
Read moreThanks but no thanks. I’ve been here one or twice since it opened, and, though I didn’t hate it, it just wasn’t a place to rush back to. However, when I received a Maryanne’s gift card, I decided to give it another try. We were promptly seated and forgotten. Tables that were sat after us had already been waited on. Frustrating, but not the end of the world. A waitress noticed that we hadn’t been waited on and alerted our waitress. We received our food and drinks and everything was ok. When we finished our meals, we sat for about 10 minutes before another server noticed we were waiting. She kindly removed the dirty dishes, and again alerted our waitress. While very nice, our waitress seemed to avoid being out on the floor which made it hard to get our check or much else. I finally had to get up, find the waitress and ask for our check.
We went to check out and I handed the cashier/hostess the gift card and she told me that the gift card machine was not working. I didn't come prepared with cash since I had a perfectly good gift card. There were no signs ANYWHERE stating that the gift card machine was down or I would have been able to save myself the time, trouble and aggravation of this whole experience. After talking to someone in the back, twice, the cashier/hostess told me the only way to pay for my meal would be to surrender the $40 card for my $25 meal, and when the machine is working again I could come back and get it. At this point I was done. I told her to keep it because I...
