Surf Bagel Middletown — Restaurant in Middletown

It suits Middletown perfectly: you will love it if you are retired or an upper middle class New Jersey migrant.

Their menu is huge with a vast array of differing ingredients, which typically means food isn’t made fresh in the store, but it does excite patrons, as seen by the huge buzz this place has received since opening.

I got a cream cheese bagel to share with a friend and a lunch sandwich bagel for myself. Both bagels were hard to the point my jaw would crack biting it at times, and my lunch sandwich was cut poorly, which made eating slightly less optimal for half of the meal. Everything was served cold which is fine I suppose for the cream cheese bagel, but not so much lunch.

I felt stomach sickness at the end of the day of which I could only attribute to Surf Bagel; I thought I was going to throw up which is why I’m leaving this review…

I don’t think this place will take Manhattan Bagel out of business, despite word on the street telling me as such before they opened.

This was my third visit and the first time I have something bad to say. Don’t get me wrong the staff there is always very nice. However I ordered a turkey egg cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup on a toasted everything (bagel) I was going back to work so I put it in my car drove and then I opened it to eat it and I had No egg, no cheese so basically it was turkey salt, pepper, ketchup on a toasted bagel. Needless to say, I was not happy. I do think I know what went wrong and it was not my fault. The person taking the order, got it right on my receipt the receipt that prints for the people putting the order together could have been misleading because and I have attached pictures. Turkey egg cheese is in one color font, and everything toasted add spread ketchup. Salt pepper is in another color font. I’m not saying this is an excuse but I think this is what happened and I’m not very happy about it. I don’t think I’ll be going back but I do think my recommendation to anybody is check your order before...

I like Surf Bagel and the staff are always nice. Plenty of bagel options and the coffee is abundant. The rest of my review only relates to my 3 star atmosphere rating on Google. Ignore it if you like and just want bagels. The bagels are good.

The only thing I don't like is the inside of the building. We've experienced it a few times, but the building inside is unbelievably loud with few customers in the dining area. I've been here with just my wife and 2 other couples in the dining area, speaking normally, but the noise level sounds more like a busy restaurant setting.
