Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram at SNDTRAVELS and EATWELLTRAVELOFTEN We've been wanting to try this place for a while but we always seem to miss them, as they close at 2, but Friday we made it. Upon entry, we were greeted by busy but friendly staff. The service was attentive but took a little longer as you would expect at lunch. Mom had the beef stew special with cornbread. The stew was full of tender beef and vegetables. The soup was thinner than we're use to but very flavourful. She enjoyed it very much. Diane had the grilled chicken with mac & cheese and green beans. When they placed the plate on the table, you could smell that grill on the chicken and it looked perfect. It was as good as it looked, tender and jucy, with a fantastic taste. Homemade the mac & cheese was thick and the flavor was just right. Even the green beans were season nicely. I had the cheese burger and fries. Pretty simple meal done real well. Good size patty and a toasted bun and the french fries were crispy and fresh. All the elements came together to make it enjoyable. Everything here is scratch made and it showed. Co-owner Kim said she and her sister Jenny have been doing it for over 30 years and their experience and care to do it right made this a restaurant we look forward to returning to again and again. Read moreNice place in an old downtown store - good food served by a helpful, kind staff. We started with Onion Strings (7), I had the vegetable plate (9.5), my wife had the Super Club (9). Be not deceived: their Onion Strings are thin onion rings, not the microtome cut amalgom of onion and batter formerly fried up at the Fair (Twisted Root's Onion Strings are no better). The Super Club is turkey and ham (regular club is turkey or ham). My wife enjoyed her Super Club thoroughly, but lamented the unavailability of cole slaw. My vegetable plate was carrots, pinto beans and rice, green beans, and french fries along with a very nice roll and spread. All were tasty, but I was particularly pleased with the fries - well cooked and crispy like McD fries, but with some skin on. 5 Guys tries this and instead serves a greasy wad of cut potatoes. Good fries have to be twice-cooked, not jammed through a die, thrown in the fryer and dumped in a basket. All-in-all I was pleased with their quality and price and I will be back at first...
