Summary: 5 stars on atmosphere and 1 stars on food. 3 stars total only because the atmosphere was awesome, the restaurant has an awesome setup, the owner or manager was very nice, and servers had great personalities. If it wasn’t for those three and based on food and quality alone it would be a one star at best.
They have so much potential and I will go back just to see if this was a one time experience and I understand businesses have growing pains so take this with a grain of salt and go try them for yourself. I rarely leave reviews but thought this one was worth leaving to help others and hopefully help Union 28 improve. I expected a lot better. I could have ate at a top rated place for the same price and the food here was absolutely horrible. I ordered Salmon and it was way undercooked and pretty much raw. It was served plopped on top of mashed up sweet potatoes and asparagus mixed together. I like salmon, asparagus and sweet potatoes but not mixed together in a pile! Especially when they are undercooked. My server forgot to bring silverware twice so by the time I got to eat my food it was cold. We ordered queso and chips for appetizers. It came with a huge bowl of queso and barely any chips at all. They never offered to refill the chips. I have never seen such a small helping of chips with queso. My two daughter’s ordered grilled cheese and a hamburger. The grilled cheese maybe had one slice of thin cheese and the hamburger was McDonald’s quality at best. Both of my kids took one bite and had a look of disgust on their face. I teach them not to complain and eat what is served but I couldn’t blame them. I took bites of both and the cheese tasted sour on both. I’ve travelled the world eating all kinds of food and this was worth mentioning how bad it really was all around. I wanted to stay for the music and they advertised the band to start at 7:30. We left a little after 8 and there was still no band playing.
So now for the positive: The fries were good! The atmosphere was awesome, the owner was friendly, the servers were awesome, and the two bloody Mary’s I had were decent. No matter how bad the food and price, it is hard to hate on an atmosphere with friendly people, kids running around laughing just being kids, and a setup that not many places can rival. They have a special venue setup that can’t be beat if they can just work out the kinks...
Read moreOk... Had never even heard of Union 28... a friend found Uncle Lucius playing here so we got tickets and went. 5 min off hwy67 in Midlothian Tx... 12 miles from the house. We got there 7:15... got a table outside under 9the canopy... hot day but was comfortable! Service although busy was EXCELLENT! Great menu.. Scott and I had the Blue Cheese burger.. amazing and cooked as ordered. Wings Estella ordered (Garlic Parm) looked really meaty... the ladies on my side had a salad ans other had shrimp...salad had no shortage of toppings. The good stuff... could have used a little more lettuce... but everything was great... They have an area for cornhole, and tables set up in another vuewing paltform... another bar in whats called the Quarry.. kind of below the resturant... what a great set up. Very famiky friendly too. 2 bands tonight - 1st was Cade Roth and the Black Sheep... started at 8 they were great and Uncle Lucius at 930 - 11.. This hidden gem us a must go... looks like events on weekdays... Trivia and Taco Tuesdays.. Wednesday's -Bingo.. Thursday's Karaoke.. and looks lije Fridays and Saturdays live music. Food and drink very reasonable... tickets for the bands priced perfectly... enough to see a band like Uncle Lucius without breaking the bank... very reasonable. Overall a 9.5 just for more lettuce (the toppings are the $ and they were very generous. Salad looked good to me but she likes more lettuce... but said it was great). On a busy night at crunch time our server made sure drinks were full and water flowed. Now to make it even better... today was smoking hot... it's Texas but mister fans kept everyone in the "quarry" cool... was really nice down there... my personal review - this is a hidden gem!! Close to the house - great food, great atmosphere, and nice people!! I DONT GET ANYTHING FOR MY REVIEWS... THIS PLACE IS A MUST GO. Want to see the videos on facebook to see the quarry - look me up... pic in facebook is longer hair and beard... Mike Bednar... they are public... look me up - scroll to 6-27-25... hit FB for some Uncle Lucius - watch the end of show video for "Keep the Wolves Away"... you'll see there is plenty of room and a chill vibe. Lots of other local music... but I absolutely...
Read moreMe and my cousin went to see Pecos & The Rooftops here. We found ourselves a spot at the front while the openers were on and didn’t move from it. We made friends with the people around us and everyone was having a good time. Halfway through the show an officer and the male manager came up to us. They tell us we need to come with them and ask how old we are, I explain to them we’re both under 21 and ask why they need us. They then tell me to stay in my spot and take my cousin around to the front of the building. I obviously follow them so she isn’t by herself. On my way there a fellow patron stopped me asking why we were being kicked out because we hadn’t been doing anything wrong. When I find them they tell us a staff member reported us for drinking and we were being kicked out. We asked to do a breathalyzer test, asked for them to check the cameras, and just asked if there was any way we could prove we hadn’t been drinking. They told us they wouldn’t be doing that and just wanted us to leave. We were cooperative and extremely frustrated. The manager acted as if he was doing us a favor by not getting us in legal trouble (which he wouldn’t have been able to do anyways) by just kicking us out. They claimed my cousin rubbed off her x’s, even though black was still visible and the x’s were halfway there. She asked if they could add new ones and they refused. Throughout the encounter they were just rude and acted as if we did something wrong even though their only proof was hearsay and we were able to...
