I waited excitedly for this place to open for more than a year, after the owners announced the concept. I grew up in South Florida, and am familiar with and like Cuban flavor profiles. That being said, I was so disappointed in our experience. We had the fried maduros to start. They were extremely sweet for plantains and fried was an overstatement.....they were barely warm let alone crispy, just chunked into pieces, not flattened or anything, and perhaps rolled around a hot pan? I ate 2 pieces, my companion ate half of one, then the remaining 5 or 6 sat on the plate. They just did not taste good or have good mouth feel. None of the drinks (cocktails) sounded interesting to us, very heavy on rum flavors, (I know one expects rum in a tropical themed place, but there wasn't much else offered) but my companion had a Christmas themed beer. The meal: I ordered the fritta burger which was advertised as a chorizo patty with cheese and guava mayo. Pro: I liked the guava mayo a lot! Cons: the meat was dry and the bun was stale. It also came out barely warm still, which is not surprising given that it took seven minutes (I checked the clock) to get to me after my companion was served his sandwich. Almost 10 minutes staring at the lone sandwich served before my burger joined it, and yet my food was barely above room temp. I suspect it was forgotten in the pass. It was also very salty. My companion ordered the Cuban sandwich. He stated it was very dry. The bread was limp and there was a lack of the mustard and pickle flavors that make a Cuban sandwich what it is. There are no sides, only starters (I guess they could be sides?) and entrees. The server was very nice. Not sure why my burger was forgotten, but someone else eventually brought it out, as I was asking him about where my burger was, once he finally came the table again. Our server gave the reason as things were brought out as they were put in....which.....why would my meal and my companions not be put in at the same time? There was again, a 7 minute wait between their arrivals. Strange. The bill came to just about 60bucks.
The decor is cute. Little flamingo details, nice looking mural work on the walls. It's extremely loud in there, to the point where I had to keep leaning over the table to hear my dining companion seated not even 2 feet away, and very dark. Very very dark.
I love the owner's other place, The Governor, as does my dining companion. He usually goes there a couple times a month. We both agreed this place was not nearly...
Read moreIf you haven't eaten here yet, you need to. Flamingo Drive is excellence, plain and simple. The interior of the restaurant oozes Miami. The soft lighting, the neon lights, the colors, the textures, the plates, the napkins, the silverware, the cups; they all contribute to an immersive and fun ambiance.
We ordered two appetizers: the Empanadas and the Croquettes. Both were really flavorful, perfectly prepared, and tastefully presented. My personal favorite of the two were the Empanadas. The sauce in particular was just outstanding.
Our main dishes were the Cuban Sandwich and Fritta Burger. Once again, both were perfectly cooked, had rich and satisfying flavors, and were good-looking dishes. The portion sizes were also great; neither too small nor too large.
The service was great, but definitely not over-the-top. It was relaxed and intentionally allowed my wife and I to have good conversation and enjoy the space. I felt like we were attended to, without being constantly watched over.
Finally, the dining area, bar, and restroom were all very clean.
This is, without question, a true 5-star restaurant, and Milford is blessed to be served such amazing food at such an amazing venue. I will certainly be revisiting Flamingo Drive to try all the...
Read moreI tried this place out yesterday and I could not just put my finger on what would get me to come back right away. Talking to the owner I made the point that the menu while has different creative stuff on it a lot of people couldn't understand what they were eating. He even agreed that they were coming out with new menus to kind of help people understand what they were eating. The decor is on point the Cuban shirts the Cuban setup. The thing I thought about is would Tony Montana walk in there. I know it's hard times but honestly in a restaurant like that I think the wait staff has to have a little bit more flair almost a little flamboyant dancing flare. Anybody can be nice anywhere being a waiter waitress this is a themed restaurant. I think on the menu being that you're in Milford stop trying to be a restaurant in downtown Cincinnati I know both the brothers are supposedly chefs but you need simpler dishes in Milford. Sandwiches fries Cuban desserts make it simple. You can still have one or two signature meals but being in a smaller town capitalize on simpler items. Also I'm not sure what the music was but definitely needs to be more of a Cuban soft...
