We've always loved Milford, Ohio, for its quaintness. We had been there a few times, just looking around, selecting restaurants we might like to try. One of those restaurants was 20 Brix, and we finally made it here the other night. From the moment we approached, we had a "good feeling" about this place. We were not wrong. This is one of the best restaurants we have ever visited! To begin, we ordered a cocktail. My choice was my favorite bourbon and ginger ale. I asked the waitress to add a couple cherries and cherry juice, which is my preferred way to drink this. She did indeed! In fact, she brought me a small bowl with a couple Luxardo cherries and some of the thick, syrupy juice/liqueur, so that I could add as I liked. If you have never had a Luxardo cherry, you are missing out! They are GLORIFIED maraschinos, but are a deep, almost black, red color, and very flavorful. Absolutely wonderful.
To go with our cocktails we ordered ROASTED MUSHROOMS (GF) (V), with sunflower seed, garlic, chive, and Tomme d'Evanston, which is an alpine style cheese. At first I thought it was a Parmesan cheese, but it was much richer and nuttier. The entire dish was buttery and rich and flavorful, and the pairing of all these ingredients was brilliant, and my husband and I both felt we never really had tasted mushrooms until now! The dish was perfectly prepared.
For our entrée, we both opted for the BAVETTE STEAK (GF), which is a heavenly portion of American Wagyu Bavette (flank/flap steak) cooked in a Bordelaise sauce. with a wonderfully creamy aioli, chimichurri. arugula, and served with steak fries. Oh my GOODNESS. That is all that needs said...
I usually do not get dessert at a restaurant, because the meal leaves me very full, and not even room enough for coffee. But the portions at 20 Brix are just right. So, dessert...
So glad we had room for dessert! My husband ordered LEMON BERRY MASCARPONE, which was a delightful and light cake, filled with berries and mascarpone. Heavenly. Chocoholic that I am, I ordered CHOCOLATE POT DE CRÉME. It was so smooth and creamy, and very chocolatey without being overly sweet. The desserts were the perfect end to a glorious meal.
Overall, 20 Brix needs to hold on to their chef! This person knows food. Our waitress was very attentive, respectful of our experience, and friendly without being phony. She knew well how to serve, and interact with the customers. It made our experience what it was: perfection. The atmosphere was beautiful, with a lot of wood and candlelight. It was cozy and intimate, without being secluded. This is definitely a restaurant we will visit...
Read moreI just want to give a shout out to 20 brix. My husband's birthday was yesterday so I decided to take him to 20 brix for dinner. Neither of us had ever been there so I thought let's give it a try.. I'm telling you this place did not disappoint. We ordered the brussel sprouts appetizer and both of us ordered the special. It was called something I never heard of but they said it's basically crispy skinned Sea bass. It was sitting on a bed of sauce on the bottom, turnip greens, turnips and the fish on top. It had dill which really tied the flavors together. The fish just melted in your mouth and everything was so flavorful. It was absolutely amazing. We waited maybe 5 minutes for our appetizer and probably 15 minutes for our entree. If you've never been there I highly recommend it. And I also highly recommend the special that's not on the menu yet. Our server was Ashley L. She was extremely helpful as I had no idea what most of the food was on the menu and couldn't pronounce it lol. We ordered at 6:12 pm and was finished and paid at 7:02 pm . Not only was the food beyond great so was the service. We will be going back. Thank you 20 brix for making my husband's birthday dinner above our expectations. I know it doesn't look like a big portion but the way it's layered is more food than it looks. We were both full when we left just not miserable full which...
Read moreThis is my husband and my fourth visit since 20 Brix’s opening. It has gone from good to meh. The mushroom bruscetta was good as was the seasonal soup, pumpkin. They modify recipes based on season and what is locally source available (I hope). My husband had the shrimp and grits, which had an incredibly smokey flavor from the ham & red eye gravy (unsure if natural or chemical additive). I had the Risotto with short rib. It was flavorless and it was so dark in the restaurant that the presentation looked like a bowl of brown mush. I ate three bites. I would have expected the wait staff to ask if my food was ok, but no. She politely boxed it up (thanks) and we politely put it in a trash can once we left the restaurant. Dessert was the chocolate mousse cake, again unimpressive. The coffee was lukewarm, both fill ups. I should have relayed all this to our server but she had her hands full with other tables and I’m not sure what good it would have done by the end of the meal. Sadly, this was our last visit. Spending over $100 for unappetizing appearing, flavorless, & unimpressive food is ridiculous. Yes, a great wine list is wonderful but if you boast a limited, locally sourced menu it better be good as well. Ultimately, I did not speak up so...
