Ever wonder who’s handled the food you’ve been served? At my most recent and certainly LAST visit, the staff at Papa Joe’s displayed not only a disregard for normal food service standards, but a complete disregard for the health of their customers. Given the covid 19 pandemic, many of us are a little more cautious and curious of what we are coming in contact with, but what I experienced is disgusting. Here is what happened:
Called in a to go order (7/13) and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. I arrived 10 minutes later and observed an employee delivering an order to a vehicle parked in the parking lot. I thought this was a nice option for those who don’t want to enter the restaurant. I went inside to pay for my order and waited as it was prepared. A little over 5 minutes into waiting, an employee bagged up my fries and asked another worker where the burger was for the order. The 4 employees present were all discussing what happened to the burger as one of them mentioned it may have been given to the wrong customer. Then she asked the others “do you think I can go grab it”? They agreed and she proceeded to go out to the vehicle I saw them delivering food to 10 minutes earlier, to retrieve it. She returned with the burger in a bag and was stopped by another employee who told her to give it to him. He snuck behind the wall for a moment to take the burger out of the bag and then emerged to place it in my bag. I’m hoping he was at least checking it to make sure the last customer hadn’t taken a bite out of it...Probably not, given the complete lack of service up to that point. He then attempted to give me this food as if nothing happened, but I quickly questioned him. It wasn’t until I questioned why they thought this was okay, that they offered to make a new one.. I declined and asked for my money back. They gave me a “sorry bout that” and and my money back. I left to never return..
I would be alarmed by this service under normal circumstances, but given the current situation we are living with it is completely shocking! If they were willing to do this in front of a customer, it makes me wonder what goes on behind...
Read moreThis is an excellent burger spot. I grew up eating the take and cook meals from them when they were humble pie (not that I'm unappreciative of my mom's cooking, it's just that nights we had food from humble pie we're REALLY good). After moving away for several years and back, I had driven past this place for a while thinking it was a side of the road burger stand and probably not to my liking. My mom mentioned that it was the same humble pie owners running the restaurant and I had to go.
My personal favorite is the Kelsey burger, with blue cheese, but you can't go wrong with any of their other burgers except the Ken (sorry Ken I just don't like plain burgers. I hope we can still be friends.) Everything is the perfect amount of greasy, as burgers and fries should be. I used to stop at 5 guys on the way home from hiking but now I get a better burger here instead.
My only qualm is that they recently started charging a credit card surcharge. I realize that this is to recoup the cost of their acceptance of credit cards, but I don't like this trend overall as it feels like initial dishonesty of prices despite the signs that are now up and the fee that the banks charge is for the business' convenience as much as the consumer convenience. Dealing with cash is a pain for both of us. Why must I bear the cost of...
Read moreWhat a wonderful little place this is! We were in the area and per usual, we wanted to try something new. Papa Joe's was my top match so I had to give it a try! When I went through their menu, I noticed Penny's burger. The burger with everything I love and without bread! It was like a burger salad. So delicious! We had ordered it to go because, well, I didn't know there was seating outside and the inside had filled up quickly with other people. So, as we were leaving, we looked over, and we could see the outdoor seating and decided to eat outside. Shortly after, an employee came out to serve the table next to us and that is just so cool to see a mom and pop place like this have indoor and outdoor service like this. I made it a point to say thank you as he walked past me. I told him the food was very good and it was our first time here. We look forward to coming back. The young man was flattered and grateful. The next table behind us heard us and also chimed in that this was their first time here as well and their food was good too. It's honestly not often I get to write a review this heart felt, but I have to say, this was some amazing and exceptional service that I have not seen in years. If you want food made right and by people who really care, try Papa Joe's Humble...
