What a great find in Milford! If you are looking for options between American pub fare and Asian-fusion, whether dine in or take out, this is your place! A bit tough to find in the middle of Lorden Plaza, sure, but easy to navigate to right off Nashua St. (aka 101A) and right next to a major on/off ramp. Parking is free and ample. Let's get on with it: the food, atmosphere, and service has been phenomenal each visit. Check out the photos of the revamped menu below. We visited early so I could get photos and videos of the place (there were some folks there eating already!) Our bartender was prompt and kind. We asked for mojitos (see below) and it was fantastic. I even joked that mojitos are tedious to make - she laughed it off and said how she loves to make what customers also love. Off to a great start! Our last visit we did chicken Caesar, wings, and the Tom Kha soup at the bar. Chicken Caesar mainly to see how they do "restaurant staples." It was great - no surprises, no frills, and the chicken was not dry. Next, wings. Normally I wouldn't order something so mundane, but the bartender told us they prepare all items fresh in the back, never frozen, including the chicken wings. They were massive in size - you could tell they were not frozen. Additionally, we had to try the Gochujang glaze and it is our new favorite sauce. Tangy, slightly spicy with that "Asian touch" these went amazing solo or with some blue cheese. I cant rave enough about this sauce - so much so that we went back 4 days later for takeout of the same exact meals. Lastly, the Tom Kha soup was fantastic. What I really noticed about this: light for a creamy soup, and I didn't detect much sugar, if any at all (I reserve the right to be wrong, and it did say "coconut sugar" but not Coco Lopez, which is sicky sweet to me). In this coconut based soup: chicken (by choice, it comes vegetarian to start) carrots, celery, onion, broccoli, cauliflower - all extremely fresh. The manager came over at some point to check in and she gave us the lowdown on the establishment. New ownership and revamped menu has given Sun a much needed boost! Now it's our turn! Go and support this place. The soup traveled well for take out - so don't think you have to dine in to enjoy the flavors. Check out the video and pics below, but a huge bar with tons of seating and TVs. The kitchen is "family" the manager told us and has a vested interest in the establishment, so you can tell each meal is handcrafted with confidence. There aren't many good Asian fusion restaurants in the Milford area, this one is absolutely with your time. We are now raving fans of the Sun Bar and Grill, hope...
Read moreI don’t give anything less than a 5 star review, or any refiew, often, but in this case (and I will go into why I did not rank it as highly as I wanted to) I want to share some feedback that can hopefully help. So I will be detailed.
First - I wanted to say I came in with an open mind. I saw some of the reviews before, but I always want to see the best of a restaurant too, so I did not give feedback during the meal but observed.
Walking in, it’s extremely clear the owners/managers/employees care about the atmosphere. It is gorgeous inside. The bar is beautiful and the place is spotless. 5 stars.
Then I ordered a drink, whiskey ginger. An employee, maybe a newer employee, asked me if that was a drink made with whiskey and ginger ale. As it is a classic drink, I was nervous to be asked that opposed to leaning on the other experienced bartender that was at the bar. The drink was OK, but definitely not great.
Service was good. My server and bartenders both had smiles and were quick to deliver food and drink.
Here’s where I think the team missed the mark - the food. I’m not sure if it’s a quality issue or a prep issue, but it was very clear to me that a lot was premade from my meal/app. For example, the crab rangoons sauce tasted and had the consistency of Kraft Sweet and Sour sauce. The crab rangoons themselves had little flavor to them, although hot and hit the spot at 8 pm. I had the chicken sandwich as well. The buns were 100% frozen and pulled at the last minute, as they were EXTREMELY stale and took away from the great flavor of the sandwich. The sweet potato fries also looked freezer burned. I couldn’t finish either and unfortunately threw in the towel before I was full so I will be going elsewhere.
I am looking for businesses here in Milford to succeed and do my best to patron them frequently. I would not be opposed to coming back another time, as maybe this was an off night. I thought my feedback might be helpful for future visits, and I am looking forward to seeing what they do in the future as it...
Read moreI've tried my absolute best to like this place, but I can't. We have been here four times, and four times I've been disappointed I didn't order something else. I can see why people like eating here, but it's just not my cup of tea.
Overpriced and not that great. People are nice.
Here's why the food sucked:
First time I went, I ordered the Entrée of fried rice with meat. This was a single portion of rice, very small, for $20. It was dry and mostly flavorless, maybe worth $5. I've had better fried rice as a side, let alone a main course.
Second time I went I had one of the burgers. Ordered medium, served 100% gray. I'm not picky, but I do know my preferences. Ate it anyway.
Third time I went we ordered mussels. Half of them had cracked/smashed shells that you had to pick through the little bits to get meat without eating shells. My feeling was that they probably cooked them with broken shells, compromising the safety of the food. We ate maybe 1/5th and left the rest. Gross. I then had chicken Alfredo, it was OK at best, maybe 3 out of 10. The chicken was the worst part of the dish, which should have been the best.
Fourth time, ordered the strip steak medium. This is a $40 Entrée. The steak came out so raw it was blue just past the sear. I also ordered a Guinness and was given the smallest glass of Guinness I've ever seen and the price was outrageous. I brought the steak home, seasoned it properly and finished cooking it.
We will not be...
