Context: We’re a household of ice cream snobs, seeking out small batch, homemade ice cream made thoughtfully with real ingredients.
To be honest, I NEVER thought we could get a place like this in our backyard. With most places we’ve tried, you’re lucky if you can find a couple of flavors that are the real deal but you have to be careful—it quickly ventures into fake crap. Oftentimes we’re venturing far to our favorite shops and buying in bulk.
But Sunday’s arrival on the oval is an unexpected treat that exceeds expectations. Our pistachio had real roasted pistachios and was not dyed green, and our key lime had visible lime zest and chunks of graham cracker crust. We ordered and then watched them scoop ice cream that was ordered from multiple people after us. It was probably 10-15 minutes of us looking at them, when I finally had to tell them that we had not been served. The girl at the counter kind of looked at me as though we had not just been at the counter and asked us what our order was. After that they had run out of a flavor of ice cream, which is understandable and they offered some different flavor options. The real kicker is my husband was eating either the strawberry or strawberry pop tart, and found little ribbons of plastic in it.
