I visited this place a week ago and was surprised what I found. I have been to a few games stores in MA, RI, NC, and OH. Many of these places are similar but are also lacking in something more. TJ Cafe & Games hits multiple categories and it does it well.
Environment: welcoming, well-lit and spacious. Too many games stores are hideaway locales that don't feel inviting to the average passerby. Additionally, the space within are typically tight quarters. TJ Cafe & Games nails the look and feel of what average shoppers want and what gamers want.
Food: more than overpriced easy Mac & Cheese. I was definitely blown away by the food options available here; ice cream and chicken parm to name a few. Some games stores can offer a few sodas or candy bars. TJ Cafe & Games doesn't allow outside food or drink but honestly, that's a minor inconvenience. Food purchases help the business flourish.
Community: friendly staff and events. Speaking with the proprietor and one of his staff members, I learned about board game meetups and Warhammer beginners league. Of course, there's Friday Night Magic but it's nice to know that for a small cover charge, friends can meetup and feed their gaming hunger.
I'm looking forward to visiting again with buddies to play, eat, and have some good...
Read moreMy wife and I don't get a chance to game as often as we used to, but we managed to get a babysitter so we could have a Saturday free and decided to see the new TJ's. It was such a great experience, and a great place to just hang out and play some Magic (or anything else) for a few hours. They have plenty of food, ice cream, games, dice, RPG books, minis, and table space to just sit down (in good sturdy chairs) and play. It's the perfect spot for the "hobby gamer" (which is becoming even more mainstream over recent years) to hang out. And they just have walls and walls of gaming goodness, full of everything you might want. (And if you're looking for something they don't have, I bet they'd help you find it.)
While it may seem the world is moving to buying everything online (and I certainly buy plenty of things online myself), going to a brick & mortar retail store like TJ's gives you an experience, where you can find people with similar interests, play games with them, and socialize. TJ's knows what they need to do in order to compete is make people happy to be there, and they work hard at making sure everybody is having...
Read moreThey have a huge parking lot with plenty of parking, so finding a spot was not difficult. I have not seen it on the night of an event. I've heard it can get pretty busy, but the parking lot looks like it could easily accomodate.
I was greeted upon entering the store. Staff were friendly, made me feel welcomed, shared information, and provided great service.
We ordered food and drinks before siiting down at one of the many tables. The food was hot and fresh. I was impressed by the quality of ingredients.
This store has a huge selection of products to choose from. They have plushes, toys, many different board games, card games, disc golf equipment, and gaming accessories. Definitely the biggest variety I have ever seen.
Cafe customers who spend more than $10 have access to a library of board games to play or comics to read. We were there for several hours and played MTG as well as a board game. We did not feel rushed or bothered during our time.
Highly recommend and will...
