My Wife and I are recent transplants to the Millington area, and all we ever hear about is how great the BBQ is around these parts. So, we decided to give the Pig-N-Whistle a shot tonight. We went early, so it wasn't crowded yet. This also gave us a chance to chat with the manager (could have been the owner). She was very friendly, and she knew just what to recommend.
My Wife got the BBQ Nachos, and I got the sampler. The name of the sampler evades me right now. Regardless, the food was incredible. Coming out of California, where the only decent BBQ is Famous Daves, this small town, independent BBQ is incredible.
The price point is on par with local restaurants in the area. For the amount of meat we got, however, their prices were very reasonable. I think my sampler was $16.00, and I got half a rack of ribs, about 10 oz of pork shoulder, and a kielbasa (along with two sides). How they turn a profit is beyond me.
The building itself is historical. For you city slickers, it has that industrial brick wall on the inside. For us country folks, it's a wall. The building is, I think, over 100 years old. It has a very welcoming feel. It is not pretentious at all. Feel free to use a napkin or your sleeve. I used both ;)
When all was said and done, we walked out of there with full bellies, smiles on our faces, and the desire to return and make it a regular for us. If you're in the area,...
Read moreSir/Ma'am, I was at you establishment today for lunch, I was shocked to hear that you only provide a discount to Law Enforcement personnel and that you don't offer this to LARGE amount of Military/ and or Retired Military here in this community. They are the reason that most of the small businesses around here thrive. Yet you display a Flag for each of the services on your wall as through you Support them all... Almost every place in Millington (eateries, large or small) provide this gratitude for the Service that the military has provided to this Great Country! I personally take this as a slap in the face of myself and any other current or past Veterans! May be why my truck was the only one in the parking lot, at lunch. I can't speak for anyone but myself but I don't see myself returning to your restaurant. Could you please explain why you would provide this discount to the other first responders (POLICE) and not the others?

Read moreNo. Don't be in Millington or near Memphis and think this is where you should go for BBQ or catfish.
Friendly staff. Ordered at counter and found our own table in empty restaurant at around 6pm. Food was brought to us in reasonable time and included one type of sauce. My pulled pork was an ample portion but dry and tasteless. The fried catfish filets looked good with a light cornmeal batter, and also good sized portions. I just wish it was cooked slightly longer, as it was not thoroughly done. Also we took some of it home and was later surprised at the amount of grease we got out of it. My cole slaw was OK but had too much dressing for my taste. Meal came with 2 hushpuppies which were good, but definitely on the sweet side.
After my meal I went to their restroom. No hot water, broken towel dispenser, overflowing trash can, and an obviously bad paint job as the former color was...
