Oct. 9, 2021 - Ever heard the story “ Little Engine That Could”? The Scootic In & Millinocket reminds me of that train engine working hard to climb that hill . . .
After hiking around Baxter Park with my wife and Nikon camera on a perfect autumn day, we stopped in around 5:30 pm at the Scootic In . A very polite hostess told us of the “ wait”. . . after reading the large Covid sign on the door we accept that most restaurants in Maine are in short supply of employees, so the owners asked for your patience.
I purchased drinks at the bar, and we looked over the menu while waiting for our table. Amber, our server, guided us to our table after 20 minutes. The dining room & bar were packed. . . So we ordered our appetizer & dinner all at once, with our wait about another 15 minutes! All was good! There’s about 7 salad choices, we enjoyed the Greek Salad first! Menu choices included seafood, burgers, sandwiches, pub appetizers, steaks & chicken . . . we ordered the 14 inch homemade pizza ( pepperoni, extra cheese, and onions on half )! After another 10 minutes our delicious looking pizza arrived. Very satisfying pizza too! Thank you for a good meal! We’d come back !

Read moreWe had dinner and it was good except my salad was brought out with my dinner instead of before so I didn’t want it. Then while my husband was paying the check I went outside at the picnic tables ( 11 tables) no one out there but me . I was relaxing drinking my drink and smoking a cigarette when the waitress came out and told me the owner was setting at the bar and saw me smoking and asked her to come out and tell me I could not smoke but I could drink my alcohol drink. Really!!! There was no one out there but me so I certainly was not bothering anyone. I am not the only one that has done this. For goodness sakes I am outside. Wide open air. She told me I could go on the other side of the fence and smoke but not at the picnic tables. Why??? Your outside. I could see it if I was inside but really outside. Come on what are you hurting. I think all customers should be treated equal. Why have outside seating if your customers cannot enjoy it. I would understand if there was other people out there and it was bothering them but there was no one. So why not have a place for everyone to enjoy. Smokers are being treated like second class citizens. You want our business accommodate us also. Our money is just as green as...
Read moreBottom line: The food is over priced, the wait for food is exceedingly long, and the food is far from consumable.
My husband and I are traveling in the area for the weekend. We arrived at our air bnb after 6.5 hours of driving, dropped our stuff off, and came here. We figured based off reviews, it would be alright. We were sorely mistaken. After getting our appetizer, We waited over an hour for our meal - which was a simple cheese burger and a chicken parm. My burger was over cooked, the bun was soggy with grease by the time it was served to me. There was literally one lettuce leaf and one slice of tomato- but it was a tiny end slice. I literally had two bites and left the rest. My husbands pasta was over cooked and soggy as well, when really it should have been al dente. The burger was $12 and the chicken parm was $19. Needless to say, we left pretty disappointed.
The server was new, and she was nice. Nothing against her. I understand these are difficult times and everyone is spread thin, but at least be charge fair and reasonable prices for your sub-par food. That meal was not worth the...
