Strange Roots has been one of our favorite Pittsburgh breweries for years, but with the new beer garden and partnership with Pittsburgh Sandwich Society they have taken it up another notch! The new beer garden is doggo friendly and provides much needed seating. The beers are tasty as always, we especially enjoy the sours that they are known for. The tartburst series is always a good bet. The beer menu is constantly changing, so there is always something new. As for food, I'm still dreaming about the In-N-Aht Burger, way better than the real thing. The fries, both loaded and plan were tasty, but I'd probably stick with the original in the future.

It took us way too long to finally make it over, but so glad we finally did. Absolutely love this spot. Brews are unique and exactly what we wanted. The attached pittsburgh sandwich society has a killer veggie burger. Extremely cool and spacious inside and outside area. Staff treated us newbs like old friends and also had awesome tunes playing. Planning on becoming regulars here. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys awesome craft beers, good music, cool atmosphere, delicious food, and personable ppl.

Great beer and some seltzer choices which is great for people who love seltzers, the burgers were so good and fresh with fries. I think going here during warmer weather is best, have a lot of space outdoors and only a little indoors. Had games for kids to play, perfect place for parents to enjoy a meal with good drinks and burgers while kids play outside with games they have there. Staff really nice. Parking is a little hard due to location.

I wanted to like this place but it came up short for me.

Give me a full-size beer if you're charging the price of a full-size beer. These aren't high-strength beers. You don't need the snifter. These should be served in regular pint glasses. Most breweries only break out the snifter when you're around 9% ABV or more, which I can understand. There is no reason a 5.8% beer should be served in one. The beer was good - I just needed more of it for that price! I could go to another funky experimental brewery in the area (Abjuration comes to mind) and get a full-size beer for the price of the snifter here with no reduction in quality.

The food also left something to be desired. My partner and I both got hot chicken sandwiches. There was a big size discrepancy between the two with mine being a lot larger than hers. Hers also had a weird fatty piece that was inedible and gross. Flavor was decent but some QC could have helped out here. They also came to $20 each with the side which is about $4-$5 more than most other places. It just wasn't worth it.

I'll probably give this place another shot because I did like the beer, but it may be a while. I'll update then if...

My wife and I went to the Millvale Taproom last night to have a good beer in an outdoor setting. We found a friendly atmosphere and good beer, who could ask for more?

We've had poor experiences in other breweries so I walked in with a little trepidation. The seats at the bar were mostly taken so I thought, "here we go again, it's going to take us hours to get a beer." But there was a clear sign where to order if not sitting at the bar. After scanning the board of available beers and making a decision, it took about 2 minutes for us to get our drinks.

The Exploding Zero's IPA was very good. We also had another IPA that's not listed on the site and I can only remember that it began with an R. It was a little fruity, but good enough to have another. We also tried the Haviken which is a very tasty Belgian. That is all we tried so I can't comment on other reviewers' statements that the brews are all sour here.

The bar staff seemed to have friends or regulars at the bar that they were talking with and sharing pictures with but when we needed service, they quickly attended to our needs. They had the perfect mix of friendliness...

I gave this a 2 because of the very rude bartender Nathan. When asking if there were any beers without fruity flavors or something similar to a lager Nathan answered in a derogatory tone “you want a Coors Light” and snickered. I politely said no like a Sam Adams. Ended up with a sour beer which was ok. The I order a burger to share with my brother and when I asked for a knife to cut it in half he said they did not have knives. I pointed out that there is a kitchen and I am sure they have knives and he insisted they were a separate company and refused to ask the kitchen to cut the burger in half. My brother used his utility knife to cut the burger which was good. Not great. The fries were a bit mushy. I had no expectations when entering the establishment but I did not expect to be treated so rudely and will never go again. It might do the owners some good to have the bartenders give a bit of a spiel on the brewing theory instead of insulting customers when asking recommendations on a...
