Decided to try this place based on favorable reviews, and it looked like a fun spot to have a “chill” dinner. First off, I do like the concept of having 3 areas of the restaurant. The arcade section is a blast from the past, the basement is great for families, and there is a bar section with a fairly large outdoor seating area. We showed up about 5:30 in the evening and it was fairly sparse but people were just starting to show up for the dinner hour. We were greeted, sat outside as there was plenty of room, and got some waters from the server a little while later. Then we didn’t see the server for at least 30 minutes. At this point, more people started to show up outside, and pretty much everyone was waiting on the server for something. We then ordered an appetizer, and waited an additional 30 mins to receive that. The server didn’t ask for our dinner order at the time the appetizer was dropped off, which I thought was a bit strange given the wait time for everything. There were only 2 servers for the entire 3 area restaurant combined, and they seemed to be getting held up at the bar area making drinks for people at the bar. Clearly, this does not work for being able to see all the customers in a timely manner. 20 minutes later, a different server came out and took our order and gave us refills. Another 25 go by and our food showed up. I will say- The food was excellent. I have not had a burger that good in quite a while! Sadly, the uplift of the good food was only temporary, as it took an additional 30 mins to receive the check to leave. All in all, it took over 2 hours to complete the meal, which is pretty disappointing as this is a casual place. The service really needs to be beefed up to keep Up...
Read moreAtmosphere is a little loud in the main bar just due to the limited area but I am more than ok with that because I love a lively crowd in the upstairs area away from the family dining downstairs. Just to be clear, flavors were on point...teriyaki sauces, fry sauce, flavor concepts, gravy, and probably the most perfect over easy eggs I have had in my life; and that says a lot. Serving sizes were a tad small but delicious and I am always willing to pay for quality. You can tell burgers are frozen but they aren't horrible, just a little under seasoned and the bite is a little off. As a person born and raised in Hawaii, you cannot... repeat cannot...make a Spam musubi with Jasmine rice nor in a Loco Moco...it completely falls apart and ruins it for those who have expectations of it bringing them "home." When speaking to the server she let me know the chef who designed the menu had left recently and they were designing a new menu. I'm excited to see what they come up with. The chef saw my Musubi fall apart from the kitchen while I tried to eat it, commented on it and had the server take it off my bill which is appreciated and a sign of a cook who cares about the patrons as well as a group of workers supported by the owners. He can only do so much with what he was provided. Great potential, good staff, good flavors, excited to see where they head in the weeks ahead. They have a solid base. I probably just had a disappointing experience because of one missing essential ingredient. I will definitely give them more business in the future, love the concept, love the local vibes, definitely...
Read moreStockwell’s has great reviews and came highly recommended based on Food Finder Spokane. My husband and I were excited to try it Saturday evening. We were seated at a downstairs table and the waitress said we could go upstairs to get our drinks. We were a little confused at this..wouldn’t we lose our table and why wouldn’t our waitress bring the drinks? We asked very nicely but she said it would just be easier to get them ourselves. We ended up changing tables and going upstairs because we wanted a beer. It took several minutes for someone to acknowledge us, but no big deal. We got our beers, then looked over the menu. No one ever came back to take our order. We had already decided to finish our beer and head somewhere else. When someone came 20 minutes later, we politely explained that we had really wanted to order food but had decided to call it a night. She did offer an appetizer on the house which was nice, but we were just ready to move on at that point. We really want to support Stockwells and we understand that one bad night doesn’t represent an entire establishment. But it wasn’t just one thing, and the whole situation was a little baffling. I really hope that if we decide to return, we get a very different experience. We love Millwood and would really like to support...
