Right off the bat, to say I wasn't impressed would be an overstatement. Upon walking in, there was only a single person doing everything. This is not, necessarily, a bad thing. If business is slow enough, as it was at 11:45am this Saturday morning, them one person is all it might take...but, if a lunch rush were to occur, then that individual could get overwhelmed to the point of everything 'collapsing'. That having been said, I will mention that a second person arrived at 12:30pm.
While I had initially intended on getting a milkshake, seeing they had a mango-lime flavored water, I decided that would be a "smarter" option...and wasn't. It was watered down to the point that, while you could taste the mango, it was just barely there. As for the lime, I couldn't taste it at all. So, I decided to get iced tea, instead...and that was worse. The "iced tea" way, in reality, nothing more than lightly brown-colored water. Even having filled the cup up halfway, it was still so light, I wondered how much tea was used to be the (estimated) 5gal container (having breed countless cups, and pots, of tea over the years, using looseleaf tea, I'd estimate only a few tablespoons worth). To price this point, the so-called "iced tea" tasted like water. We didn't bother with any sodas, so I can't claim to know whether, or not a the sodas have been "watered down", but, knowing that water, carbonation, and syrup levels can all be individually adjusted, it wouldn't surprise me.
Finally, getting to the food, there was NO improvement. In fact, it was worse...MUCH worse. My wife ordered the Classic burger, medium, with fries, and a drink, while I ordered two hot dogs (one with chili & cheese), the Cajun tater tots. Starting with my wife's meal, she ordered her burger 'medium', yet, what she received was 'welll done' to the point that both sides were burnt, and the burger patties were dry. The burger was so dry, that she had to put katchup in it, in an attempt to make the burger more moist...this from a person who NEVER puts katchup on her burgers. As for her fries, some were undercooked to the point of wondering if they were cooked, while others were so well-done, they were burnt & extremely dry. Moving over to my meal, I'll start by questioning whether, or not, the hot dogs are actually Sabrett's. I've had countless Sabrett's hot dogs over the years, and, to the best of my knowledge, what was served did NOT spray to be Sabrett's. While the plain dog was cooked correctly, the chili-cheese dog was burnt on the outside (both dogs were cut almost completely in half before being grilled, which is a major "no-no for hot dogs, at that CAUSES then to be dry). Adding to the chili-cheese dog disaster, the chili was cold (not even warm, or room temp, but cold), and the cheese was so minimal, to the point of being no more than half a slice. Speaking of cheese, the cheese was NOT even melted on the hot dog, or my wife's burger. It's almost as if the guy slapped on the cheese just before removing the burger patties, and hot dog, from the grill. Making matters worse, the tater tots tasted "funny", plus there were bits of who-knows-what on the plate with the tater tots (see photos). Whatever these 'bits' were, it was obvious that they had been fried well-beyond death, as they were completely unrecognisable. It's almost as if the oil the fries & tater tots were cooked in hasn't been cleaned, or replaced, in several weeks. More on this last point in a minute. Needless to say, we couldn't finish our food. It was SOOOOOO bad, I considered getting a grilled cheese sandwich from Starbucks next door. Put in perspective, McDonald's is the last place I would have previously considered going, but, now, having eaten at the Wayback Burger in Milpitas, I'd rather eat at MacDonald's than EVER return to this place.
Needless to say, we will not be back, and I am considering calling corporate HQ to notify them of the situation.
I was all set to post my review, with nothing further being said...but, now, my wife and I both...
Read moreIt takes a lot for me to be impressed about a burger because I'm a burger snob. However, tasting Wayback Burger for the first time truly is worth sharing the experience. With today's inflation, WbB is on the expensive side for a fast food joint. We spent $42 for two entrees, fries, onion rings and one drink. So if your on a budget, it's best to save a little before coming here. However, if you do come, you won't be disappointed. We ordered their classic burger that came with 2 meat patties with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, mustard, on a fresh brioche like bun. The meat was advertised as Halal, slaughtered by hand, fresh never frozen, soft, then smashed on a hot griddle. Cooked to perfection, it was flavorful. Gordon Ramsey's burger in Vegas is 10/10. WbB is an 8/10. We also ordered the Chicken BLT and I must say, it was so good. Starting with the chicken, which I suspected is probably brined because it was just enough saltiness and a hint of additional herbs. I opted to have it crispy vs grilled, hand battered and fried kept the chicken moist and tender to perfection. The chicken sandwich was topped with soft tender bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and sauce on an obscure toasted round bread. A BLT sandwich is a reliable sandwich that is satisfying with very little surprise. WbB Chicken BLT is definitely a surprise to your hungry senses. In my mind, it was better than the Classic burger and I'm confident you will too. Perfectly cooked fries and onion rings were great compliments to round out an already satisfying meal. I highly recommend Wayback Burger but have to save my money in order to return and enjoy a delicious meal. BTW, ask to try their...
Read moreI usually get Wayback burger through Ubereats. Today I made the wrong decision and decided to get my food in person. I had the opportunity to be disgusted. When I came in the cashier/cook was on his phone. He did not in any way signal that he was ready to take my order. While taking my order he wore slippers, a hoodie, and earbuds in. After I completed my order, he started cooking. He did not wash his hands before putting on a glove. He then put on one glove while handling my food. With the other had with no glove, he would open containers and drawers. He touched raw chicken and raw hamburger meat with the same glove. He then put on one new glove and with that glove touch all the same drawers and spatulas with the hand with the glove. He then proceeded to touch my onion rings individually. He then took off the one glove and played on his phone. Once some of my food became overcooked, he put his phone in his pocket and put one glove on. Touched some more drawers with his phone contaminated hands and touched his hair before touching a spatula. Then a minute later touched that spatula with his glove hand and then touched the lettuce, tomato and other items I ordered on my sandwich. Towards the end of making my food he went on his phone again. Overall, so many food laws broken. I pray that my friend and I do not get sick from this restaurant. I basically just wasted my money going to this place. I wanted to talk to a manager but he was the only one present. I am extremely dissatisfied. I do not plan on coming back any time soon. I would suggest to others to take your business...
