I hate leaving less than positive reviews. This is something I try to avoid much preferring to say something nice. The world it seems is making this more difficult as mediocrity or less is growing. Even with that, the only thing that makes me loose it is a bad attitude and totally unprofessional actions from the management and staff of a facility.
My wife and I visited Mason's when they first opened for short period of time. The menu, food, prices and service were fine. The owner (I believe her name is Heather) was never even the slightest bit friendly, never stopped by a single table to ask about how things were or even crack a smile. Let's just say that she did not exhibit "people skills." Of course, we don't normally chose restaurants based on the personality or lack thereof of the owner. As long as it's clean, the food good or at least acceptable, the service/wait times ok and prices at least in line with other options. The owners husband who many times comes in, is very nice and mixes with customers. We stopped visiting Mason's after witnessing what we considered unprofessional treatment of the owner to her employees. This was on more than one occasion and done in front of customers. Unacceptable under any circumstances.
After many months we decided to try again to see if things were any different and for about a month everything was fine. We learned to go very, very early on Saturday mornings since the single cook quickly gets overwhelmed when the small store begins to fill. Wait times for food can easily approach 30+ minutes as we found out today. This is not a one-off experience. It is a reflection on management to not bring in an additional cook on weekend mornings at the expense of the customers dining experience. Understand to that I have decades of restaurant experience at the regional/divisional level with highly regarded concepts. At least they do know to blanch bacon and sausage to save time. Even with that food comes out very slowly once the store fills. Not acceptable.
The servers are super friendly and do their very best even letting me know to expect a wait on food before the order was taken. Today, for the first time we invited a friend who usually has breakfast at another restaurant to join us at Masons.
Each of the recent visits to Masons, I have ordered the exact same omelet. Each time I have requested that the cook not brown or burn the outside of the omelet. That does not mean that the omelet will be undercooked, it simply means that you turn it more than once. Eggs can burn easily and taste very different when burnt. "Never" did the server inform me that they could not accomplish an omelet that was not browned on the outside. Never in my 64-years of eating in other restaurants have I been told that I could not have my order cooked as I like it. I am of the believe that if there is a problem with what I order, that I should be told "we can't cook it that way." I would be fine with that and be able to either leave or make a different selection.
For the 2nd visit in a row of visiting Masons, my order was burnt! Not just a little burnt but rather like a New York tourist laying in the sun on the beach for 10-hours! The very nice server apologized and took the plate to the kitchen. Thats when that "sweet" thing who runs the place had to open her mouth. "That's the way all omelets look here." She obviously did not care if the customer could hear her mouth! Sorry, the customer, "not you" makes the calls unless they are rude or unacceptable. Most establishments would perhaps take that meal off the check. I was told that the drinks would be taken off the check along with the ingredients of the omelet. 2-waters and a coffee and the sausage and cheese out of the omelet. The rest of my party mostly finished their breakfast before my now properly cooked product was delivered. We ordered to go boxes, paid and left.
We will not be back. We will...
Read moreI hate to do this because I really wanted to be a forever customer. When I first find this restaurant which was about 2 weeks after they open. I was so happy. Some more places in Milton to eat at. So I started to eat there. At time the service was slow and very slow and the place was crazy but I always over looked that because every place can have a bad days. But Last week I was there and just comment silly I can't wait for you to open for dinner. The owner Heather said something that I didn't like to the fact she needed to sleep sometime and not very nice about it either. First I was just joking and second I am a paying customer. Then today I ask to speak to her and she wouldn't come and see me. She told Rhonda she was just to busy and there was not but a few customer in the place. Well if you are to busy to speak to me then I am just to busy to come to you place of business. I was going to tell Heather which I did tell Rhonda that the cook they had today was wonderful and that I really enjoyed his food. Which for the most part I have always enjoy the food. But I just can't give my HARD EARNED MONEY to a place that doesn't want to talk to their customer weather it is good or bad. And I have been a regular customer since they open this place. At least once a week if not more. Sorry but that really bother me a lot. At first I wanted to let it go but the more I thought about it I just couldn't. You need us (Customers) to make it here. I hope you will understand where I am going from. How would you like someone to do...
Read moreI was a little bummed at first to learn that they only serve breakfast on Saturdays. The breakfast pictures look so good!! I'll have to check them out again on a Saturday. The server was very friendly and sat at my table to talk and get my order. She suggested the mashed potatoes and I'm glad I took her recommendation! The right amount of chunky and creamy 👌 I ordered the fried green tomato BLT with greens beans and mashed potatoes. Restaurant green beans can be hit or miss but they do it well here. The sandwich was good with a nice balance of flavors. I would have liked a bit more substance to it (the tomato slices were pretty thin so it was mostly breading) and I had a different expectation for the sourdough bread, but overall I enjoyed it! It's a quiet enough area that sitting outside was pleasant and the prices are reasonable :)...
