Their new location is on S 13th Street, only a little ways from Layton. There are still lots of pictures from their old location on Layton, but as of April 2025, they are inside Rayan Market & Restaurant, a Middle Eastern market (see pictures). It is a small family owned business, and mother cooks all the food. It’s only been a month since they moved here from Layton, so they don’t have a sign yet, but just go in to the Rayan super market, and navigate yourself to the back of the building. They do have a table off to the side inside the market if you’re in a pinch and need to eat there, but I’d recommend taking the food to go.
The family is friendly, and if you aren’t too familiar with Mediterranean food, they will help you navigate their menu items. They have 2 types of rice. One is a smoked rice (first time I tried it, and it was good!), and the other one is cinnamon. I didn’t care for the latter, but the smoked rice was delicious. I was only going to try a bite or two, but I ended up kicking myself off of keto and ate a whole bowl.
Chicken special - with rice and salad Salad was a small portion of very fresh lettuce, tomato and cucumber in light oil dressing. Chicken was a bit dry for my taste. They did have the chicken in a warmer plate (like the buffet style) and it must have been sitting there a while. The flavors were good, but the dryness was disappointing. The menu says “half chicken”, but we got 2 pieces of thigh+drum. In a way that’s good, cuz any breast meat would have been so much more dry.
Lamb special - with rice and salad We ordered the cinnamon rice for this dish and the smoked one for the chicken dish. Like I said, the smoked rice was better for my palate. The lamb was delicious. It was falling off the bones, but it wasn’t dry. We got 3 large chunks of lamb with bone and one little piece boneless. In both plates, our server piled the rice so high! I hope they don’t go out of business giving so much rice! But I’m not complaining.
Overall, the meal was delicious and I would definitely go again. I’d love to try some of their appetizers and...
Read moreThere’s three things diners look for ina restaurant experience, Ambiance,Service and food quality. If you get all three, you’re lucky AND usually paying a premium for that. I’m more of a Food Quality #1 closely followed by attentive service. This place has those two in spades! Stopped for lunch with a young relative from out of town who’s aUWM Freshman. This place isn’t (YET) as pretty and fancy inside as some of the other Middle Eastern places in the area. Looks like they’re trying to do some remodeling, fixing up inside. But it wasn’t off putting in any way either.
Greeted by the Wife of the Husband and Wife owner team. She told us to just sit where ever we wanted. She alerted her Her Husband of our presence and he was quick to come out and tell us of the daily specials, and give us a menu. I ordered the mixed Grill of Chicken Shish Tawook, Beef Tenderloin Kabobs and a Kurt’s Kabob, while my companion ordered the Chicken Shish Tawook plate. With the plates you have the option of Rice, Fries or salad. I got the salad as I’m low carb, while Daniel got rice. I have to admit, the rice looked amazing! Daniel loved it, and he really liked his Chicken too. I thought the Chicken Shish Tawook was as good as The Holyland Deli’s version, which is High praise! The beef kababs were very flavorful as well. Now, The Kufta Kabab is something that I’ve been very hit and miss with in the past at other joints. I’ve probably not cared for them 75% of the time, but THESE are one of the best I’ve had. Daniel also had a pita which he liked a lot.We were also given some Tzatziki Sauce and Tahini. The owner was very warm and gracious as well. Before we paid, I stopped by their hot counter and OMG,I’ll not be using the menu next time, I’m just going to the counter and pointing out what I want. There were some incredible looking Chicken Leg quarters, what I think were Lamb shanks and all sorts of other goodies!
If you’re like me and love Quality food and great service above all else, please give...
Read moreThis restaurant has been open for one week and we decided to stop in and enjoy the food at this new establishment. Our delightful waiter, Abdal and his family greeted us and they were very excited to have us try everything!
We started with the Tahina salad. It was full of fresh flavors and quite lovely with the tahini sauce. Humus and pita, superb! My family tried the bottled beverages from Dubai, Peprican $2.99. A refreshing carbonated fruity beverage, but not very sweet. (I thought the Pomegranate flavor was better than the Strawberry)
Dinner was falafel over freekeh served with a yogurt sauce $12.99. My son, who is vegetarian, loved this dish. He stated that the falafel has a very satisfying taste with a thin outer crust. Citrus undertones gave this meal a different taste but one that won him over. This is his new favorite place for falafel. See second pic below.
My husband ordered the chicken shawarma platter $10.00. It's enough food for two or three to share! Make sure to get the meat "spicy." It really wasn't spicy in terms of heat, just superbly flavorful. Just delish! Photo one, below.
I ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich $5.99. I received three large pieces and only ate one. So, two more meals here! You must try the dipping garlic sauce on the side. Such a satisfying taste.
We also has the spicy chicken roll $1.99 Again, not spicy but so very tasty! Not pictured. We devoured it quickly! Image an egg roll, but filled with chicken. Yum.
Plan to stop in and try something new. The menu is filled with deliciousness that we have never had before. But we will be back to sample more.
The staff is truly delightful, informative, and attentive. We give this new Milwaukee restaurant a...
