Haven't visited this restaurant in a while but decided to try it for dinner. The worst customer service a restaurant could have. Visited here with my family my husband and 3 sons. So first off please give my generous tip to the cooks because your other staff members don't seem to do any kind of work. You walk in to no one acknowledging your presence no welcome or anything I don't think they even looked up at us! Then you stand there cause I haven't been there in a while didn't know that you have to place your order on a kiosk even though you have two workers standing there doing nothing. Oh yeah wait they will give you your drinks. So after I placed my order for around $90 for the family. I waited about 5mins and finally asked could we go sit down after I paid for the food. The guy looked confused like he wasn't sure if we were able to go sit down we were dining in. Make sure you watch for the food to come out because the staff do not bring it out to your table or even let you know it's ready I cannot believe how the service is. Then don't you dare spill anything on accident better off no kids cause if they were to spill they have no napkins at the table you may have to wait a long time before they help you. I ordered the birria dinner which is suppose to come with consome the important part of the meal. They forgot to put it didn't want to go back up to the counter to just be looked at funny and not helped. Was suppose to be not spicy just regular. All the food we ordered was super spicy so they probably gave us someone else's order or didn't care and gave spicy. I could only eat one taco it was way to spicy to even enjoy. My boys couldn't eat there food either and I am Hispanic so I can handle spicy but this was a little too spicy. Anyways when you dine in you still get your food in a foam container not even a decent plate of food and all the money this restaurant makes I just don't understand any of this. I don't think I will be back and like I said please give my more than generous tip to the cook even though they got my...
Read moreChucho’s Red Tacos is a good spot if you’re in the mood for birria and all the variations they have to offer. Most people mentioned this place first when I asked for good tacos in Milwaukee so I had high hopes and so far, this is the best that I’ve had here.
Before entering, you walk through their spacious patio area (which was empty since it was a little chilly when I went). After you walk through their front doors you’re greeted with a counter lined with order kiosks which is where all your ordering is done—there are no cashiers or servers. There’s someone behind the counter that will hand you your drink once you’ve ordered.
While browsing the menu the first thing that struck me was some of the pricing. A lot of it felt like prices you’d see at food truck at a festival, but the dinners and taco plates felt a little more reasonable. The most bizarre choice to me is different pricing for corn vs. flour tortillas. It’s not something I’ve ever seen before.
Now to the food. The rice and beans were great. The beans were kinda smokey and definitely looked and tasted like they were made in-house. The rice was fluffy and just the right amount of seasoning. The tacos looked and tasted authentic to me. The meat was flavorful and really tender. These tacos really hit the spot for some good Mexican food for me.
Some feedback: someone else in my party got a burrito which looked like it was dipped in fat like birria tacos are and the tortilla got so soggy that it fell apart on him not even halfway through eating it. Second, they put so much care into the rest of their food that I was shocked to see they don’t make their own guac. A side of guacamole comes in factory sealed cup portions.
Overall this place has solid birria tacos and I would definitely recommend this place to other people. The environment is great and the employees were nice and friendly. The prices aren’t outrageous but if it they were cheaper like most Mexican food I would frequent this...
Read moreThe beef brisket/birria de red and chicken/pollo birria are both good, though the beef is better. The steak/carne asada is a cheap cut of meat, under seasoned, and over cooked. The rice is not Mexican rice by any means; it tastes like Rice-a-Roni, and was in a steam table pan for a very long time, or was made by someone who doesn't know how to cook rice. It also, was definitely not fried prior to being over cooked. The beans tasted like they were only seasoned with table salt, and were pale. I'm thinking that a majority of the food was made by a white cook, with the only exceptions, being the shredded meats/birrias. The green salsa/salsa verde, was flavorless, runny/watery, and had no heat to it. The red salsa, was just okay. I don't know how they could possibly have a 4.6 star rating; must all be by white people with no clue about authentic Mexican cuisine.
I myself am white, but I am trained in Mexican cuisine, and worked for 4 years as a cocinero/chef, in a Mexican restaurant. I make better at home. Having never had red tacos before, my wife (who is Mexican), and myself wanted to give them a try. When only 15-20% of the food you order, to try, tastes good and is edible, it's hard to recommend it. If your were going to try one thing from the menu, and only that, the beef brisket birria tacos are it. Second would be the chicken birria, which is good, but not a thing. Traditional birria is actually goat. Some make it with beef, and call it barbacoa, which it is not, as that is traditionally only made with...
