Fantastic little neighborhood Greek place, the first time I went there was over 30 years ago and I always remember the great food and very tasty shakes, malts, and Sundaes. All of your food is prepared to order, 5-10 minute wait if you order at the counter, you can also call ahead, or get delivery from GrubHub. There is a fairly extensive menu and great order customization. Of course the namesake gyro sandwich, chicken and beef shishkabobs, seven specialty burgers, fortunately even the plain hamburger or cheeseburger is great. Chicago dogs are more than decent, except not served on the traditional poppy seed bun. Also very delicious chili dogs and if you ask for raw onions they will give you plenty. The gyro and shishkabob sandwiches have two upgrades, supreme (extra meat) and deluxe (extra meat and grilled vegetables) The dinners are where options abound, they all include a small Greek salad, fries, and a drink, you can also get rice instead of fries, or instead of salad or, all rice, all salad, or all fries. You can also get combos of chicken, beef, and gyro meat all together or just two meats. They also have great appetizers too, jalapeno poppers, mozzarella sticks, eggplant fries, breaded mushrooms, and extremely tasty and crispy onion rings. All of the staff are very friendly and attentive, a very clean and well kept seating area. I think there are 8 or 9 booths and 3 tables. Not a huge place but a very open feeling due to the curved atrium windows. Very 80s decor kind of takes me back to the high school days when I first...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFor a burger/gyro stand, the fast food here is decent. However, I canāt give this place a higher rating because of the checkout experience, which has felt uncomfortable on several visits since COVID.
On my first visit, the cashier told me it was cash only, even though they had a card reader. When I mentioned I didnāt have cash, she allowed me to pay by card. On a later visit, she came around to see the tip amount I was adding. I donāt mind tipping, but it felt pressured with her standing right there. During my most recent visit, she asked multiple times if I was using a Visa or MasterCard, which might be necessary, but when I mentioned I was using Apple Pay and wasnāt sure which card was set up, she came around the counter to look at my phone screen. She then hovered over the screen, watching for my tip selection.
The ābedside mannerā here feels awkward, and I find myself dreading the checkout because of it. I could be misinterpreting her intent, and maybe sheās just trying to be helpful, but the approach makes me...
Read moreIt is very sad what has become of the Gyro stand. This once was a very good ice cream and burger and Gyro stand to get many different options of food and now it is become a shell of its former self. It is now a dirty rundown of what used to be and the food is barely edible and the woman at the counter was so rude and it was 88 degrees in this place and when I asked if we could get our food to go she asked us why and I told her it was just too hot to eat in there and she got all upset and laughed at us. It was 81° outside and 88° inside. The place had a very weird smell and with all of the dirt all over the place it was impossible to think of eating there in the first place. It is sad to say but I will never return to this facility again because I am afraid of getting myself and my son sick because this place does not look like it has been cleaned in a long time. If I could give less...
