Warning Long Review! (service and vegan items)
Not too long ago, someone recommended Paloma Taco and Tequila to me- the menu looked like they had some pretty good vegan options. So we drove out to try it today. I wanted to love it. But the experience was disappointing to say the least.
First off the waitstaff seemed rushed and bothered by us. When we first sat down we were basically the only people in the restaurant so we didn’t quite understand the rush. Two different servers were switching off coming to our table RED FLAG 🚩. I had a feeling that inconsistency was probably going to make our order come out wrong, but still had high hopes.
Just ordering drinks was a problem, Server(1) acted like we were supposed to know what flavors of sodas they had, but all the flavors on the menu were inaccurate. Then I asked if the guacamole had any sour cream or any dairy and she was clearly annoyed. When it came time to order our meals with Server(2), we specified vegan multiple times, my bf even explained how to make his item vegan like what needed to be removed or replaced. We waited for what seemed like a long time considering no one else was there. But I know sometimes vegan options take a little longer so I gave them the benefit of the doubt.
Server(1) brought out our food. Only 2 of the 5 things we ordered were visibly vegan. I said all 3 of my tacos were supposed to be vegan. In an annoyed tone Server(1) said “Oh…vegan vegan?” and took them back. My bf’s burrito was vegan (as far as we know), we could see the chorizo was definitely soy. But his soy chorizo taco was beef, Server(2) came back with 1 vegan taco for me and my bf told her his taco was wrong. She tried to tell him that’s what he ordered. He was trying to be nice so he just said ”ok can I have another one that is soy?” She said “sure” and took the beef taco.
Server(2) came and put my other two tacos on the table, one of which was definitely beef and she quickly walked away. Shortly after, she came and put my bf’s taco on the table- still beef. She walked away and came back a second later and said “Does that taste like the soy?” He said “It looks beef and I’d like to know what it is before I eat it.” She took it back again. He also tried to tell her about my tacos but she was already walking away. No one ever came back to check on us after that. I made eye contact with Server(1) and a bartender multiple times only to be ignored. They were acting like we were a huge problem.
My boyfriend ended up having to stand up and go to the bar to tell them we were still missing one taco and one was wrong. What we ate of the food was really good and the person that appeared to be the owner, ended up comping the whole meal. But I wanted to share our experience so that people know not to trust that they are giving you vegan items. Be discerning,...
Read moreI recommended Palomas for dinner to my out of town guest because the 1st time I went there ( when the restaurant originally opened) I had the best experience. The staff and owner were so nice and attentive. The food was good and I just loved the cozy feel and concept of this restaurant! I was so excited to take my guest here! Well…I went there last night with the intent to have a good experience eat tacos and catch up over drinks, perfect! We went to Palomas sat down at a 2 person table which was fine. We were eyeing up the four person table that was empty but the waitress and bartender rudely suggested and pointed we sit at the 2 person table. Ok, no big deal. At that point there was not a wait for tables. They were probably waiting for the rush. I was not going to let the approach ruin my night! I ignored it and carried on. We ordered our food and drink and then mid dinner the staff tells us to move our table further over to the table next to us (we were literally already that close) Now we, are almost joining them! They now were going to turn the 4 table we were eyeing up into 2 tables to accommodate 4 separate guests. It was another uncomfortable situation again it was just rudely done and waitress not friendly with her approach which made it more uncomfortable. It was so uncomfortable for me and my guest and the people next to us. We were moved so close that we would have to move the table to get out. We again ignored it to make the best of our dinner. Then after we were done eating not done with our drinks or conversation, the waitress asked how we wanted the bill. I did not mention to her I was still drinking my drink I figured she already knew that. I answered her question. She comes over and tell us the amount for each of us and proceeds to processes our payment. I continue on with my out of town guest and we talk and continue sipping our drink. She comes back 5 mins later to tell us we need to hurry up due to the wait they have! We were not even there for 1 hour yet! I told her I was still working on my drink she said ok and comes 5 mins later and said our time was up! At that point, I had it! I told her how this was the worst dining experience I had ever had and I will not be back! . I would have told her not to close the bill if I knew we were going to be asked to leave. If I wanted fast food I would have picked a different place! Needless to say my night ended early and it was an embarrassment! I don’t wish this experience for anyone! If anyone is looking for top notch service and authentic Mexican food Guadalajara restaurant in Milwaukee gets it right every time! You will not be disappointed by their food or service! We need more restaurants and service like...
Read moreWe had another terrible experience, and I'm beginning to think this is just how the restaurant operates. Of the 3 times we've gotten take out, 2 of them we have had to wait DOUBLE our estimated wait time. Yesterday I was told 5:05pm on the phone, and again when I arrived at 5:00 that, "it'll be ready in 5 more minutes". 5 minutes turned into 15, turned into 25 minutes while food kept coming out for others who had ordered after I had gotten there. No one bothered to tell me things were taking longer than expected (which probably would've fixed this whole situation, but courtesy seems to be lacking here). After I had been there for 30 minutes, I approached the window to complain, and no one would come to help me. I made eye contact and waved over the lady who I paid, and she turned away from me! I began to turn to go inside and make them talk to me, when another employee started coming over with my bag. "Here you go, any hot sauce?" was all I got. No apology for the business' terrible time management, as if making people wait double their wait time is a normal occurrence. It's my weekend, I've got some extra time, but at least the food was good, right? Wrong. My tacos had clearly been cooked LONG before (maybe 25 minutes before?) the quesadilla. The fillings were all room temp, and the taco that was pressed against the container side had been sitting and steaming for so long, that the tortilla crumbled apart into a soggy mush when it picked it up (I only live 10 blocks away, so they were like this when I received them). Sadly, the food was still tasty (that's what the 1 star is for), and that's the problem. The food tastes good, but everything else about the business feels like it's being run by amateurs. This is 5pm on a Tuesday, not a weekend night. A 1 hour wait for 3 tacos and a quesadilla is unacceptable. Knowing how long food is going to take, and ACCURATELY relaying that to the customer (both on the phone AND in person) is about as basic as you can get. If they can't get this right, I can't see how they wouldn't be going the same route as Hue or Juniper 61 (and close). I have never left a negative review before, meaning the level of unprofessionalism experienced here was so great, it's come to this. We will not return, and will make sure to let others know about the 'service' they'll receive at...
