I went there yesterday for lunch and it started off nice the atmosphere was very inviting. There was one waitress/bartender working and I understood that. after some time I was trying to figure out how to get her attention without being rude. She was heavily waiting on the table behind us and hadnât walked past or checked on my table in awhile. So I finally say âexcuse me!â When she looks up I say âwhenever you have a second please.â It wasnât rude or aggressive I just wanted to get her attention. She then begins to speak loudly enough for me to hear with a lot of attitude and says âOK CLEARLY IM THE ONLY PERSON THEY JUST GONE HAVE TO WAITâ with an eye roll. So Iâm shocked because I knew that was at me but I did understand that she was the only person thatâs why I said when you get a second. She begins to say the same thing again loudly. So when she came back to my table I politely let her know that I wasnât rushing. She said âumm hmm what do you need?â All I wanted was a refill on a drink. She went and waited on everyone else and came back about 15 minutes later to say that she was going to get it. I ended up catching the cook as he walked past and he got what I needed. All of the attitude and loudly speaking for me to hear was rude and unnecessary. Her name was Kimmi. That absolutely ruined the vibe that I initially had coming into the establishment. Also my friend that I was with ordered jerk chicken and when she broke into the chicken it was bloody and undone. I had a horrible experience at the restaurant location and I will...
Read moreWe gambled on the jerk cheese curds and won! pleasantly surprised. they must hand make them. gooey bites with a little, not too much, jerk flavor. Our entrees were satisfying enough that I'll likely be back to sample some of the other menu items. Pretty big menu with lots of specialty items that I haven't seen on a lot of other Jamaican menus. Good selection of sides. Unfortunately they were out of coconut mashed potatoes but that sounds delicious.
Service wasn't very attentive. Had to wave them down pretty hard to get a drink. Even though we sat at the bar and there was no other people in there for about the first hour and several employees milling around.
One pet peeve is that they charge an automatic gratuity without mentioning it on the menu. Unless I missed it. But I'm pretty sure I read that thing cover to cover because I was interested in what they had to offer being my first time there. Unfortunately, my friend added a generous tip because she missed it on the credit card receipt. I'm glad I read the receipt because this is the second place in the neighborhood this week that has happened to me at. Considering that I was planning on leaving a good tip, even though the service wasn't that great, it's a bit insulting to not have the policy explained before ordering. Perhaps they have a sign up somewhere? Maybe that's why the service is poor because they don't have to work for tips. Hard to say
It's a pretty large place with a bar, lots of seating, a lounge area and what looks like a dance...
Read moreI thought I would try pepper pot for the first time because I heard good things. Well maybe I came in a bad day. I usually go to Uppa Yard but of course theyâre always super busy. And I know why! Their food is amazing and prepared for you while you wait. Whereas Pepper Pot god could not possibly be made fresh. My husband and I got our food in 10 minutes! So that was a Red flag for me once she said the wait time. Another Red Flag was it wasnât busy like Uppa Yard! Got home the meat was not tender, or piping hot and the rice was hard (undercooked) so were the beans. Itâs supposed to come with fried bread they were out of it I was looking forward to it. There was no seasoning or heat (Spice) AT ALL! And For the money we spent, I was super disappointed because Uppa Yard is a few dollars cheaper and they never miss! That was my first and last time eating there at the Pepper Pot. I was hoping to get home and be happy and ended up very sad. But that explains why they werenât busy. I rode past Uppa yard and it looked like a night club full of people thatâs the only reason I didnât go there because my husband had to go to work and couldnât wait 2 hours I mean itâs worth the wait though. Thatâs because their food is amazing. Yâall have...
