The hype behind the pizza at Riverwest Pizza is well deserved. The dough style falls somewhere between a more dolled-up tavern style and a less foldable New York. It retains the pleasantly sour notes of New York dough while being a little more crisp. It's great.
I tried two pizzas. The first, known as the Fratney, was very delicious. On the menu description, there's a lot going on here, but in taste, the arugula and balsamic reduction are the heavy hitters. Unfortunately, a glaring issue I had was that they used mozzarella instead of goat cheese. The occasional bite with duck was a real treat; akin to the dark meat on a turkey. The red sauce isn't aggressive and allows other flavors to come through. They also burnt the crust a little, but frankly I occasionally like it that way. More picky eaters could've ended up a little disappointed between the cheese and crispy crust. Thankfully, they got lucky - no complaints from me. Well, besides missing out on the goat cheese. Maybe next time.
The Singer Circle was the other pizza I tried. It's amazing how much roasting garlic can tame its harshness. Entire cloves were scattered alongside perfectly-cooked chicken. The pesto sauce was surprisingly on the lighter side. There were acidic notes of lemon. This pizza is a classic riff on chicken pesto dishes - it sticks to the basics, and as a result it simply works.
Overall, I would easily recommend Riverwest Pizza to those craving more than just an everyday...
Read moreWent on a Monday with my 13 year old niece and 6 year old daughter. Was very busy, no one sat us (not sure if they do that or not) but saw an empty table so we sat down at it. No air from what I could tell and it was a hot, muggy day so the inside was pretty stuffy. Garlic bread came out 5-7 minutes after our pizza arrived. There was a wait but it didn't bother us. Kids were watching Ninja Warriors and were well behaved and patient. We really did not mind the wait (other than it being so stuffy) The service was poor (could be maybe they were short staffed???) and the pizza was okay but what really stuck out, was the unfriendly feeling. Would definitely say it is not really a family friendly place. Was told Monday nights are service industry nights so yeah.....probably don't come on those nights. I felt this was advised to me because I had kids with me. Won't go back. I might consider take out but I was looking for a good pizza place, in the neighborhood to support. After this experience, I will stick to...
Read moreI was just hungry for pizza, I found this place on a Google search for 'pizza near me', and found a gem! I ordered a small Greek, and got a huge pizza, a little light on some of the toppings, but maybe that's an artsy, bougie thing? But very yummy. And there's this outdoor covered patio area with tables and a stage, it's so cute. There was live music happening when I showed up, it was a five piece band consisting of: a stand up base, mandolin, squeeze box, acoustic guitar, and clarinet, and it was kind of jazzy music. I must admit it's not my genre of choice, I'm an old Blues buff, so I don't know much about this stuff but the female clarinet player also sang,...IN FRENCH!!! It was so sweet and beautiful, I've never heard anything like that live before, I loved it. So, this place, Riverwest Pizza, does live music outside all summer, and it was free!! I've been looking for music all summer. JACKPOT!! SCORE!! Oh, I'll be back alright, they'll be sick of me, that's a sure thing 🤣. OH! AND! The nicest...
