This location: Food is generally good/satisfactory, but rarely exceptional. The staff seems to only want to do the bare minimum at a leisurely pace. At my last visit, the order was correct and made in a reasonable time, though the crust seemed to made from old dough that was starting to dry out (I've worked in enough pizza places, including Rocky's, to recognize this). Everything else about the food was decent (but I remember when Rocky's was always great!). Only other issue was I felt like I had to twist the staff's arm to get them to make a whole pizza, instead of just sell me already made slices, though they weren't rude about it. Store was clean, but could have been better. I did see someone later working hard to clean tables. Salad bar looked unattended to. People were panhandling IN the restaurant. I have sympathy for the less fortunate, but that's not acceptable.
Rocky's in general: the pizza is great when fresh. The pizza sauce is one of my favorites of all time. However, the restaurant is long, long overdue for a refresh - decor/style, marketing & menu. Nothing has changed in 30 years it seems (and the small incremental changes are so minor to be almost unnoticeable). I can imagine that growth is stagnant, and most of the time I eat there now is because I just happen to be near one when I get hungry. It's never a "destination" anymore. The breadsticks kinda suck and aren't a good value (they're ok when fresh, but don't hold up to being under a heat lamp/on a heating tray - See Little Ceaser's, Pizza Shuttle or even Papa John's on how to do breadsticks right - more of them, more sauce, more butter and better texture - soft and chewy, not dry and crusty...and at a better price). I'd love to see Rocky's be something Wisconsin can be proud of again, but it's kind of become a shell of what it used to be. Good to get once in a while to mix things up, but it's not what it used to be, or could be again with more effort...
Read moreI was very excited to see that there are new items on Rocky’s menu when I stopped in this week.
What are these new pizzas? Do you ever dip pizza in ranch? Would you ever dip a ranch-sauced pizza in marinara? These are interesting questions to consider.
I’m a big fan of the soft, chewy crust and breading that the pizzas at Rocky’s are composed of. The 3 new pizzas perfectly highlight this softer quality of crust! I really love that.
Now offering Chicken Bacon Ranch, I’m impressed by how Rocky’s thought about what would make their special pizzas different from the rest. I encourage you to try them out while considering more flavors for dipping.
New pan-style pies with chicken and ranch are available in small - large sizes and they give just about as much taste satisfaction as the regular version.
WHAT MAKES THE RANCH EVEN BETTER is — dipping each bite into a side of the traditional marinara sauce. COMBINING THE TWO SAUCES IS KEY for the most...
Read moreI frequent this location often since I live in the area. Whenever I come in the cashier stares you down instead of letting you know they can help you. There are always three or four of them hanging out at the front most of the times checking their phones. Then when you order they rarely speak or engage. The customer service is horrible. I came in one time and the store was closed right before lunch and the manager came back 10 minutes later saying he had to run out to the bank. Another time a manager was talking to what appeared to be another manager. She was loud and engaging the cashier in her conversation that she was too distracted to take my order so I had to wait until they finished their conversation. Then she finally takes my order and never says a word to me. All of her communication was non-verbal. The staff need to take customer service trainings but start with...
