It's been a wild several years but this place continues to provide a lovely spot. Looking at my previous post (retained below) it's not that I disagree with it, but I think inflation has done it's work on my perception. The prices which I once found objectionable today seem pretty well in line. The food continues to be very tasty and the menus has expanded a bit and locked into some greatest hits with quality ingredients. After years of growth and settling in the decor and atmosphere has settled into its own unique charm. A lovely spot, food is tasty, I wouldn't drive across the city for it, but if you are in the area it's worth checking out.
PREVIOUS POST The food was very tasty, and the coffee was fine, but everything costs about a dollar or two more than I would expect to pay. I had one of there brakefast biscuits and a 12oz latte which came to a total of $11. If the atmosphere had been more exceptional I might have even accepted this price (the biscuit was very tasty), but at these prices I expect you to either be providing sides with your brakefast OR an atmosphere that charms me into not caring that I'm paying a little extra. I had been here once before when they first opened up and wanted to give them a chance now that they've had several months to get settled, for me they are fine - but aren't going to be worth leaving my house to go to. The shop is a typical coffee shop (the bottle selection is incredibly limited, so much so that I think they are stretching it calling themselves a bottle shop), so if you happen to be next to them and need a cup of coffee they aren't objectionable - but they aren't really a...
Read more5 stars. Up from 4. Lived in neighborhood from 1998 - 2022 and we still make this cafe a regular stop even now that we live in Oregon City and travel. This is a must stop. Picture added is a Biscuit with bacon & egg, and side of veggies and pesto = $15.5 = Delicious!
4 meals ordered & all fantastic! Had veggie sandwich=delicious & sausage, egg, cheese biscuit & also very good. Coffee great. I've lived near here and this my first time ordering food. We'll be back!
I dropped my 5 star to 4 due to uncontrollable kids being loud, spilling & noisy. But this is a family neighborhood Cafe. So depending on what you want, this place could go either way with you. I will still go back, I might do take out, if kids are present.
Added: The meat (sandwiches) comes pretty rare. They won't ask you for the doneness, so ask before hand. And with that, their poached eggs are very runny (but you might like them that way) . So again, order appropriately. We've ordered both and it's for this reason I've added this comment to my review. I'm not a fan of very red meat & absolutely hate runny egg whites. Which is why I like and order scrambled.
Added 7/2018 : They seemed have gotten rid of the couch & children's play area. IMO, better for business. Kids can play home.
For the owners, collect up your dirty dishes more often as Flys like...
Read moreI need to update my review because I can do better. I have made this place my walking destination on Saturdays for the last month. I realized today I have known the owner for 20 years and have been frequenting his restaurant for more than a decade. In my experience good restaurants come and go, but consistently good restaurants are unique and gems. I read the review about this restaurant being expensive and I want to add a little context. I think restaurants and particularly breakfast places need to charge what they can to maintain the business and the quality of their product. Unless you have run a restaurant you are making a lot of assumptions that may be incorrect about why prices are what they are. One small example is the fact eggs got really expensive overnight and breakfast places in particular get squeezed. Sorry back to the review… as I sample one menu item per week I can confidently report I am enjoying everything on the menu. What restaurant can you...
