Five Watt Coffee, E. Hennepin — Restaurant in Minneapolis

What a letdown. Had seen lots of great reviews and my experience didn't match them. Trying the baked goods was unnecessary, you could see they wouldn't be good. My partner tried a muffin anyway. It was ok. The coffee though was not ok. The flavored latte she got was overly sweetened. Starbucks level over sweetening. Very very sweet. Some people probably like it I guess. The double shot latte I had was at least not overly sweet, but it tasted watered down & a bit burnt. All this was surprising as this place has better reviews than other more high end, coffee snobbish type places I love. Anyway, this happens sometimes when you try new coffee shops. Maybe it was an off day. Maybe the crew was poorly trained or in a bad mood or management did something to throw off the flow. I don't know. This was the first and will be the only time I try Five Watt. I wasn't going to leave a review but Google prompted me with a notification or three until I gave in...

I have been coming to this five watt since it opened because it was near my work, but now it is near my home. I was honestly disappointed with this location each time I visited but kept giving it another shot because the other locations always made great beverages and had friendly service. I think it could have had something to do with the quality of steaming alternative milks, but also the espresso. Not to mention a barista laughed at me for asking if there was decaf cold press. He thought it was ridiculous, but the other five watt had decaf cold press when I would frequent there.

I’m writing this to say, I think this spot has changed. I’ve been coming in again recently and the service has been great, my drinks have been so perfect, and the covid precautions make me feel very safe. If you happen to feel the same was as I do, I’d definitely give it...

We had a really nice time at Five Watt! It has a cool vibe and spacious interior with lots of seating. We got there at 9 am on a Saturday and there were lots of empty seats and by 10 it was getting pretty full! We snagged the couch area which was nice and cozy with the sun streaming in.

I got a vanilla latte with cinnamon (basically their atomic blondie without the bitters) and it was really good, albeit slightly less sweet than I prefer, but luckily I had brought some of my own sweetener and was able to sweeten it to my liking. Other than that, it was a very good latte and espresso. I brought my own 14 oz mug and they only charged me for a 10 oz but still filled it up! I was very appreciate of that.
