I am from the suburbs so I rarely come into the cities for anything. One of the reasons I don't is because identity politics seem to play a role in almost everything in the cities which is irritating. I came with three of my friends who are all part of the lgbtq. Community.
Now the issue is not the food or the presentation as I was impressed at how great their food is. I will say that the issue was in the service.
I ordered a side of Fries for example and when it was delivered I noticed that the waitress delivered my side of fries to the center of the table so at that point I would have been embarrassed to say well I got those for myself. It makes sense to give everybody personally what they order.
Something else that bothered me was instead of serving everyone their meals right away they were brought out one at a time over a period of time. When people come together they like to eat together it's just a matter of respect.
Being a straight male, I notice things about areas that are run a certain way with political identity politics as part of the way they're run that being, the extreme focus on making sure that I was the last person served even tho I was prepared to order and had let the waitress know I was ready to order ..... specifically me .., the waitress in the case looked at me and then said and I quote" I think... I'll pick, you go"and chose everyone else until I was the last person. I was also served last.
We all know exactly what kind of identity politics seem to be more prevalent when it comes to uptown and the inner cities of every state in the United States as opposed to the suburbs.
This isn't a matter of me misinterpreting anything this was what happened. My friends even noticed it. Please make sure your employees know that identity politics have nothing to do with your restaurant and should have nothing to do with your restaurant. You can support things without making it adamantly clear that you support things. Stay...
Read moreWe visited Luna & The Bear for restaurant week! The vibe here is very nice, seems like it would be a cool place to hangout. The service was pretty terrible, honestly. We had a reservation for 2 hours before the restaurant closed, and we weren’t able to place our entree orders until 1h 20 min after we arrived. We tried to place our drink, app, and entree orders together but were told to wait and place apps separately. Then we tried to do our app and entree orders together but again had to do entrees separately. It was roughly half an hour between placing each order, and we ended up having to scarf down our entrees and take our desserts in boxes to go. One person’s entree didn’t even get entered in, and came out a few minutes before the establishment closed.
The food was alright - with restaurant week it was $30 for an appetizer, entree, and dessert. I ordered a Burrata and Jam appetizer (“Burrata & Jam - prosciutto, burrata cheese, fig jam, arugula, ciabatta”) which was pretty good! Then I got the Braised Short Rib (“Braised Short Rib - creamy polenta, arugula salad, fried onions”) which was decent - tasted good, but not nearly as good as what I’d expect. Finally got the Butter Cake (“Butter Cake - maple bourbon peaches, whipped cream”) which tasted good but really did not hit right in a cardboard takeout box in your own kitchen. I honestly wish I’d skipped restaurant week and just ordered a burger.
The Gin & Jams were quite good!! I had the raspberry one which was delicious, and my friends enjoyed the triple berry and apple ones. You definitely taste the gin, but not in a bad way!
There’s limited parking available around back and on the surrounding streets.
Overall, I’d come back for drinks and something casual but I would not...
Read moreGood food but bad/confusing service. We went for restaurant week so there was pre-set menu for dinner at $30 which included an app, entree, and dessert. I had the Burrata & Jam, Braised Short Rib, and Butter Cake. My partner had the Buffalo Tofu, Seafood Curry, & Triple Berry Tart.
We tried to order a wine flight that was advertised as a part of the restaurant week promo, but the manager explained to us that it was a typo. She offered to suggest a wine flight at normal charge, but we ordered cocktails instead which we enjoyed.
Service: We had been served by 3 different people throughout the night - all of them did not know who our server was and did not communicate with each other. Service was slow - but mostly because nobody wanted to serve us or that there was a “mistake” on which server had us in their section. Nobody ever checked on us so we tried to order whatever we could when anyone came around.
Food: I appreciate the generous amount of prosciutto with my burrata and jam and also appreciated the very large short rib with my entree. However, the short rib was slightly overcooked and hardly seasoned. The butter cake was way too sweet and difficult to finish without needing an entire glass of water. Overall, food was good, but not fantastic
For restaurant week menu and pricing - this was an exceptional deal. However, because the service was confusing (even the manager and servers were really confused themselves), I’m not sure if we’ll be back soon. Everyone was nice and the food was almost there, but I might check out other places before coming...
