Clarified butter is the chef’s secret that makes everything fabulously crispy on the edges.
You have to know right away that they close at 2 PM, they only do early lunch and breakfast. And that’s what they are the star of.
If you are somewhere that knows the value of Homemade biscuit you’re gonna wanna get here because there’s also homemade jam.
Standish is a neighborhood hidden gem that has a unique approach, and the words came right from the owner:
Make good food and good friends It’s not easy but it is simple
You’re going to want to come for the food, but you’re gonna wanna come back for the community, caring, and warmth of the heart of the business.
They only use natural oils which means, they don’t use industry oils of cheap stuff that isn’t actually good for you Using olive oil or clarified butter Has this little magical element that crisps everything.
Biscuits are huge, homemade light, and fluffy and they’re served with a little side of jam, usually four berries.
Monkey bread is a little circle of a magical treat that every bite pulls apart and there’s extra sauce that is poured on the top to dip it in around the ring of banana and pecan. Decadent and perfect for a table to split.
Everything made from scratch, including the corned beef that’s brined in house so if you are coming for corn, beef, hash, or a delicious Reuben, you’re going to get a nice surprise.
Roasted tomatoes and tomatillos are all in house creation, and what that means is the salsa and sauces are full of fresh flavor, the kind that stands up and talks to you.
No soy is also very much on the chef’s mind. We see them using less imgedients treated gently, So we are back to the kitchen basics from 40 or 50 years ago and all of the current chef knowledge to make it superb in a dining room setting
It is a very small space so weekdays are going to be a real win for breakfast, it fills up for lunch and it’s waiting room only on the weekends.
Also perfect spots to eat alone, diner style seating on one part of the restaurant and group seating on the other.
Wheelchair accessible and easy parking, as well as a kitchen that has double entries, so staff can get around quickly, and that helps when it’s busy.
Genuine, if I were going to name this breakfast as something, it would be genuine. You won’t feel like you have to overindulge, the steak was fabulous and not a rubber band steak, it was a real treat to have good ingredients, paired beautifully, presented simply, and served fresh and hot.
One of the few spots that you can hide away in as a single person and feel welcome, you can have a breakfast meeting on a weekday and not feel like you’re taking someone’s spot, and because it’s simple food it comes out pretty quick, so you can get on with your day if you’re coming in for lunch.

Read moreBest brunch in town, hands down. We've had just about everything on the menu and it's all top notch. Their Desayuno burrito is the literal best breakfast burrito in town (I usually substitute the carnitas for chicken tinga, so good). The huevos rancheros obviously follows suit. That verde is to die for. The eggs benedict is beyond compare. The brussels sprout hash is fantastic too. So well balanced with goat cheese and bacon and everything, really, if you're thinking about it at all, get it. The BK Sammie is legit. Seems simple, but it's got texture, brioche bun, salt, savory--if you like breakfast sandwiches, this one will ruin you for eating them elsewhere. The abelskivers come out so hot and you will burn your everything on them, but it'll be worth it. Their hash browns are perfection, but you can customize them. Want them extra crispy? Want some cheese on them? Add onions? Etc, etc. They have drip coffee, but they also have a full barista station and you can get your fancy lattes, etc. For lunch: the Standish potatoes are potato discs fried with garlic and spices and you didn't know they existed before, but now that you do, you'll crave them. And don't slouch on their veggie side of the day. It changes all the time, but it's been amazing every time. The Reuben and BLT are solid choices, they're a step above ones you've had elsewhere. The light field chicken sandwich is where it's at. But, really, that Desayuno burrito and all the breakfast food is still available at lunch time and it's still worth considering. Also, every single person working there is amazing. They're all so friendly, patient and fun. Usually see the same wait staff visit to visit, so it must be a good place to work. Really cozy spot with good people and...
Read moreHigh marks for consistency above all else. We live down the block and order takeout breakfast regularly on the weekends. The food is always ready when they say it will be (usually less than ten minutes, which is perfect because that's how long it takes me to walk down!), and is always carefully packaged.
My only "issue" was they would package my hashbrowns with my carnitas omelet (best thing on the menu) which was "de-crisping" the hashbrowns, so I started asking for the hashbrowns to be packaged separately which Standish is happy to do. Boom, problem solved.
Oh, and those hashbrowns? Just cooked so well in butter, you don't even need ketchup. And if you like them crispy, just ask for them extra-crispy. It's actually kinda hard to find crispy hashbrowns in the Twin Cities, so we've been enjoying them.
Go ahead and add aebelskivers or the monkey bread to that brunch order. I'm more of an aebelskiver guy myself but my partner preferred monkey bread, which is covered in delicious toffee sauce that makes it pretty sticky (but good). Great leftover with ice cream later that evening. Aebelskivers are so fluffy...
