Key West Bistro is located in one of my favorite areas of South Minneapolis and I visit as frequently as I can. Close to the light rail and other fantastic spots to grab food at.
The owner is lovely and I really appreciate the thought that went into creating a space that doesn’t look like every other coffee shop in the Twin Cities.
I started with an iced cafe con leche and it was SO GOOD and arguably the best drink to grab on a warm day.
Followed up by a Cuban that was crunchy on the outside, pressed down to perfection and soft on the inside. Loved the pork, ham, cheese, mustard and pickles - all very authentic tasting, down to the sour pickles, which is KEY here.
I’m a South Florida native who has lived in the twin cities for 6 years now. Finding Cuban food and Cuban coffee is not easy around here.

The ratios of that astringency from the pickle, the savoury ham and tender pulled pork, the warmth from the mustard, and a mellow floral sweetness from swiss cheese. The key lime recipe is a good one, traditional with what's seems to just be condensed milk, lime juice, maybe egg yolks, perhaps some zest, but definitely on a housemade Graham cracker crust. It is not as tart as I like to make my key lime pies, but it is certainly an example of how to do it right. The espresso is also delicious, with a nice and sturdy crema (suggesting fresh coffee beans) and a full body. I can only recommend stopping in here and enjoying a delicious sandwich with...
Read moreLet’s just say this is a must spot in the Minneapolis area. I’m Cuban 🇨🇺 and finally after living here for 12 years I finally found a true Cuban food spot! Sorry but “Victor’s 1959 Cafe” is not it! The Cuban sandwich is perfect! It is a 10 out 10 but don’t show my mom this review because I would be in some big trouble. The flavor of the meat is unbelievable just like we make it at home. The bread was toasted just right. Holy and the Colada was on point just like they serve in Miami. No one and I mean no has been able to get it right here in the Minneapolis and he did! Wow!!! I’ll be back...
