A DELIGHTFUL DIVE BAR! We were visiting the Twin Cities from Milwaukee - looking for a typical bar with a Friday fish fry and the Cardinal popped up on Google. It's an old run down neighborhood bar with billiards and kareoke next to a light rail station and the huge grain elevators. They offerred all you can eat battered fish for $15.95 but that did not come with a side of soup or sald and fries, just cole slaw and regular fries. The regular menu fish comes with 2-3 pieces of fish, soup or salad and choice of potato for $10.95!! It was a delicious bargain! The fish was lightly battered, crispy and nice thick chunks of cod or haddock. The clam chowder had more clams in it than most and the sweet potato fries were great (4 choices of fries from regular cut to crinkle or waffle or sweet as well as tater tots no extra charge. My wife had a turkey, cranberry and blue cheese salad that was a full meal. She said it was great. The eating area is well lighted and family friendly. Beer and drink prices were reasonable. Super friendly patrons and staff. This place is an old school gem. We will not miss coming back at...
Read moreI was really excited to try this joint. We placed the order for Bite Squad to pick up two burgers, fries, and wings on 12.23.15.
First off, we were shorted fries that we paid almost $3.00 for, and i'm glad we were shorted, because they had more salt than the Pacific Ocean. They were basically inedible.
I ordered the Ghost Pepper Burger medium rare. The burger came over well done, like a hockey puck. There was absolutely no flavor what so ever. Even the beef itself seemed to be a bit off, almost fishy.
My colleague ordered the double bacon cheese burger, also medium rare, he received two well done patties, dry as a bone with no flavor.
The wings were also sub-par in my opinion.
We really wanted to find a quality burger joint near our work location, that we could order in from. Unfortunately, we will not be ordering from Cardinal Tavern again.
I was drawn into the Cardinal because of feel that surrounded the outside of it. A hub of activity with public transportation dropping all sorts of human conditions off from busses and trains but also bicycles, cars and bushes too! A bit dark and dingy inside. More restaurant than bar and only beer for alcohol I had forgotten that these places were still around. A couple of domestic pints rang in at $8.50. It wasn’t crowded but their set really only has 6 or 7 seats at the bar and flows right into restaurant seating with chi a bit off to me. Service was fine with that little bit rough around the edges charm coming raising others kids for most of life. I’ll swing in another time. Maybe take the train and check out their food as they’ve been around awhile so something’s...
