Grading on a curve here in the messed up abandoned, redneckified, faker flooded graveyard that was my hometown of Minneapolis. If I have to be in public here, especially for any length of time, this is definitely one of the least hated spots to be. It's not the (former) Purple Onion here but it really seems you can pretend it has a ghost of Counterculture, Spring, an Opportunity that Minneapolis had always been. Uh until the many years of total annihilation. No, you can't escape The "Brave New World" Order here or the uniformed BRUTALLY enforced conformity of post-Covid Minnesota an mainstream society but you can let your hair down(itz not fiirboten here). Mostly Police State mix of lost people on one side an young people on the other on the weekend an seems more just young people who appear to still some free thought an free will also on weekdays. I'm not in the best of moods these days but realistically at the same time we things have gone terrible for Minnesota an to some extent society for a real, long, time. Being here somehow reminded me of how things used to be before the ever more choking strangle-hold Totalitarianism has on society, lucky for these young people they don't seem to know TOO much about that(maybe I can even get them to read....) an you don't have to die of boredom of the regular super materialism an poorly misunderstood affluence here like EVERYWHERE else, there's definitely something in the air here🙂. The coffee is at least acceptable so far too, they seem to KNOW SOMETHING about it even. Beat the-get-ahead religion and grab a little slice of free America an...
Read moreVisited here for a morning meeting. It is quite an atmosphere, vibrant, many windows so can view the beautiful scenery of busy traffic. Now! I did NOT order anything so I cannot speak to the quality of how the coffee is, how the anything is. However! I can say that Baybay! Baybay! Baybay! The amazing individual I visited this place with had a scone type delicacy and that thang was drier than dry! Ok! I entered and saw that thing and said ooh babbay they missed all the butter. All the butter! It was so dry LOOKING that he only bit about a fourth of a one fourth of the scone, and that was before I came. Hahaha. So the scones, stay clear! They are beautiful and topped well but dry as all get out. Now the service was amazing, from the moment I stepped in I was greeted and they were serving other people too. I was pleased with that cause to walk into the atmosphere that did have many that resembled me, the service made me feel like I was seen, appreciated and I would return again. I seen they had a turkey sandwich, sounded good and MOIST! Again would return, amazing service wish I knew her name to acknowledge her as she deserves but I don't. Thank you anyway!
Please note my food star rating is based on that scone and...
Read moreAs an avid Twin Cities coffee snob, I had to check out Walden Coffee. I am regularly in NE, so it’s in a great location for me.
Concerning atmosphere, the place is well lit and for a seeming smaller and longer space, it accommodates a great amount of seating. I appreciate the fireplace there.
Concerning coffee, I have only tried lattes. I appreciate the allowance of bringing in your own mug to reduce dishes and waste. They offer a unique syrup, miso caramel. The first time I tried this it came through well and was very enjoyable. The second time, the flavor did not punch through as well for reasons I am unaware of.
Concerning milk texture, out of all the third wave coffee shops I have been to in the Twin Cities, my experiences have been not as good as I was hoping. The steaming on the lattes I have had did not have as smooth or even foam as many other shops. The foam was not as fine and micro-foamy as desirable.
Another thing concerning the atmosphere, it gets busy (not an issue at all and is to be expected) but throughout busy times while I have been there baristas may shout out orders in a tone that is not welcoming...
