J-Birds — Restaurant in Mint Hill

I'm newer to the area and I stopped in today for an early lunch and I sat at the counter. The ladies were very nice, welcoming and not overbearing. Exactly the way I like it.

I had a cheeseburger with chili on it. It was cooked the way I like and the amount of chili was perfect -- this was not a sloppy chili burger, it was just right.

I also ordered french fries. The fries were perfect temperature and were cooked perfectly. Thankfully they were not oversalted like so many other place.

We need more small places like this - too many corporate restaurants in the world. It was clean, people were friendly and food was good.

When sitting in there eating lunch, the atmosphere reminded me of something I'd see if "Smokey and the Bandit" or "The Dukes of Hazard" was real live over movie/tv show. It is small and unassuming.....but do not let that deter you from going...

Well, I discovered this place when I was looking for a good burger spot. I initially ordered take out as I was busy and sent my son to pick up the food. I was impressed so I decided the next time, to dine in. The service was ok. The only thing that bothered me is that I'm a Black female and although one of the kitchen staff is Black, the customer base was primarily white. When my husband and I walked in to have breakfast, all the customers and hostess/cashier turned and looked like we didn't have any business in there. There was an old guy sitting at the next table over and he just stared at us the whole time we were eating. The waitress was mediocre at best and didn't really make eye contact with my husband. Good breakfast but obviously not the spot to dine in if you're ethnic. Oh, and they have a problem with flies. We had to keep shooing them away. Place could use a deep cleaning....

I eat here 2-3 times a week for my lunch break. Everything I have had so far is delicious and very well priced. The best burger on the menu is the Johnny Ho. Sides are good as well with my favorite and always piping hot side of fried okra. Do NOT come here expecting a super healthy or big crazy menu or this is not your kind of jointe. You go to J Birds for the relaxed friendly hometown atmosphere and delicious food at @ great prices. You can tell when an owner actually cares about his restaurant and J bird does and it truly does show. This is the kind of place you want to NEVER change and always...
