WOB was a dumpster fire to my group and I!!! The only thing that was pleasant for us was that we were seated promptly on arrival which was impressive because we were a group of 9 celebrating a birthday (remember this.. a BIRTHDAY DINNER) but unfortunately even the size of our group became a problem at the end because of a FORCED 20% gratuity.. To start, after being seated our server arrived quickly and brought us our drinks, we’re good to this point. Our order was taken we ordered approximately 5 appetizers with two of them being the same item, a birria quesadilla (tasted awful by the way I wouldn’t bother with it, I get it’s bar food but it was very dry and swamped in bacon), 3 minutes passed and one (of 5) appetizer was brought out (good so far right? wait for the rest)… 10 minutes pass, still no second or third appetizer, or fourth or fifth… 10 more minutes pass, still nothing, our drinks are running dry and our server was… god knows where actually (WOB could someone tell us where he was?) It took another 5 minutes and our server finally came around. We had to ask for refills despite the cups being empty and the ice melted from our drinks, we also ordered a single Washington apple shot but that never came, I guess the flight to Washington got delayed and WOB didn’t have any apples in the back, or liquor at the bar to pour a shot. Before our refills were back Entrees started coming out (before the appetizers!!!) and orders were mixed up, missing sides, etc. Usually mistakes happen and we get that it was a busy night so to this point we’re all (for the most part) annoyed but not upset. Like I said earlier this was a birthday dinner, and we wanted to order the birthday girl a dessert so when she got up for the restroom I darted to where my server was taking another tables order and asked if he could place a dessert order and have the staff sing happy birthday. He agreed and within 3 minutes a food runner dropped off our dessert without utensils and never came back. I confronted the server when we asked for our checks and he said that WOB doesn’t sing happy birthday and apologized about the spoons. We were okay with letting it all be and charging it off as a hectic night- but before we could get out of WOB, before our checks were even brought we hear the echo of a ringing bell and all the WOB bar staff screaming at the top of their lungs “ATTENTION WORLD OF BEER WE HAVE A BIRTHDAY IN THE BUILDING!!!” My eyes lit up, I thought the birthday girl of our group would be getting her happy birthday sung after all but to my absolute distaste, disgust, and dismay they were singing it to someone else within moments of my table being told that WOB doesn’t sing happy birthday. At this point the majority of my group was ready to leave without tipping, but WOB has a mandatory 20% charge which I firmly believe was undeserved. I understand restaurants are facing “short staffed” issues, and I understand how food service employees are paid but a spade should always be called a spade and nobody from tonights staff deserved to be paid a tip from my table after the tremendous disrespect. It’s a damn shame too, we could’ve looked past the mediocre bar food, past the poor service, but the disrespect is what I will not tolerate. Safe to say that I won’t be coming back to...
Read moreMy experience at the World of Beer was very disappointing to say the least. I had high hopes for this place, even after the restaurant had hung up on my group when we called to make a reservation.
The only good thing this place had going for itself was the food, but my dining experience was hindered when I saw that my order was missing the side that I asked for. The rest of my party also had very dismal service, with missing appetizers and drinks, as well as a dirty glass of water. A lack of decent communication coming from our server meant that we had to call them to our table every once in a while, to resolve our issues.
When we asked the server for dessert, we emphasized that someone in our group was celebrating their birthday tonight. When the server came with the dessert, they brought it out with no spoon and no birthday song. When asked about why they didn’t sing Happy Birthday, the server stated that they do not sing for birthdays. This was an understandable response coming from our server. That understanding soon turned into disbelief when we hear a bell ringing which was followed by another server singing Happy Birthday to another group. That moment killed every last piece of enjoyment that was left in my group, and to make matters worse, everyone’s bill already included a twenty percent gratuity that was neither warranted nor deserved.
If you want to eat at a place that treats you with a smidge of decency, I urge you to run away from World of Beer. To any brave soul that read through this rant and is willing to risk their sanity in order to try the food here, I strongly recommend you try out the macaroni and truffle fries. Missing out on Flanigan’s, which happens to be right across from this mess of a bar/restaurant might be the reason that there is animosity between my...
Read morePros: Staff are very friendly and helpful. It seems as if a manager is usually on the floor and wait staff are very mindful to ask if you have been helped. They also do it with a smile, which seems genuine and is appreciated. I was offered a glass of water or something while I waited at the bar for my food.
WoB has a great promotion on fries and sauces and each sauce has great flavor and kick if you like a little spice. They make the fries like I like it. Not too crispy and with a few soft ones but can hold up when you dip it into a sauce or ketchup. Tasted like authentic potato.
Now for the not so good: The place is definitely a bar friendly, American style vibe. However, when you get take out, it’s at the bar and I find it to be very sticky area, on the floor and around the counter. It smells like alcohol and sugar. Also, there seems to be a jar of dried fruit or oranges near the bar that’s added as a topping to your drink. I saw a waitress stick her hand in the jar and pick one out with her fingers (which was not easy), without a fork or tong. I feel that is unsanitary and I don’t want that to then be placed In my drink especially if that’s the practice of multiple wait staff. There needs to be a better method.
I also had the fish and chips. First time I ordered, i was told that it was a good choice and that it was really good…but that they didn’t have anymore and that I should try another day. Very disappointed but I got a chicken sandwich which wasn’t bad. Hefty piece of chicken and filling.
Second time I went and got the fish and chips. I was not impressed. The batter seemed flour based and dense and I couldn’t tell what fish it was. It tasted like old flounder. The fries were great but literally approximately 10 fries were given. A very...
