Stopped in this thursday morning around 9:30am w/elderly parents...first time, local residents, and no wait. Plenty of parking. We don't know why we haven't been here since they opened. There were 3 of us, we all ordered "The Oliver". A lot of history to the restaurant name, take time to read. They go the distance for their namesake. Long story, short...their restaurant has a wide open space, you order at counter...but you can certainly choose a table and review the menu before ordering. No pressure. Incredibly friendly staff, they come back and check to see if you're happy after food was served! Wasn't too busy, great for elderly folks on a thursday morning. Can only imagine it's probably packed on saturday, open 8-2 every day, closed on sunday. Our meals were pleniful and tasty. A small bit of fancy, with very comfortable chairs at a round table, low jazz music. The grits are no joke, abide by the reviews!!! We ordered them just because of the reviews, they may be the best you have ever had, we certainly thought so!! Can't wait to try the shrimp and grits. They also provide a small portion of real jam for toast, on the side...not the packs of jelly you get at a franchise...same for the coffee, great tasting, comes with a small jar of real sugar and a small serving of real cream. They serve buttered texas toast, not just the same old dry toast you get anywhere else. Pairs exceptionally with the dippy eggs and/or with the jams offered. We typically go to a franchise, since my folks are trained in their own minds to know what to expect. This was a nice surprise. Price is similar to any other franchise, if not better, and for better quality food and atmosphere. We will be back! Well done to ALL staff and kitchen!! Support your...
Read moreMan. What can I say? Eating here is like eating at your grandmother's table... your grandmother that REALLY knows how to cook. I was just here for the first time the other day and the food called me back. The first day I had the veggie eggs with perfectly crisped bacon and a biscuit that was light and airy enough to float. Today I had the creamiest and most flavorful shrimp and grits ever with a waffle that was prepared to perfection (crisp on the outside and not dense on the inside -rare find) Both days I had a cappucino served in a cute little green glass with light foam floating on top. I could swim in it, it was so good! The service also leaves nothing to be desired. The staff is pleasant and the service is quick and correct.
Not to mention the soothing music in the background will help melt your stress away for a minute. Customers even seem to understand the peace-keeping assignment adjusting their volume level accordingly while they enjoy a meal, maybe finish some work while they eat, or just settle into the calm. It's wonderful.
There are other gems in here that I hope you will discover on your own. Be sure to read the walls.
All said to say, I'll be back... often.
Thank you...

Amazing FOOD, Ambiance, Decor, Service, background Music, Restrooms (maybe 1st time I've complimented restrooms :-)
This place reeks of EXCELLENCE.
Definitely GOURMET fare ~ Every food item we ordered was like the BEST we've ever tasted.
First visit, but not the last ~ gotta keep going back until we've tried everything on menu (will take awhile since we live in CA, but do travel a lot, and frequent Houston :-)
Started with the best ever Lobster Bisque. Wife had delicious Italian soup with potato's & sausage (forgot name, but similar to an Olive Garden selection, only much better).
We both had the Warm Baked Potato Salad ~ never before had anything comparable.
Wife had Chips, great Pasta Salad, Filet Mignon Sliders (I know, who ever heard of pairing Filet Mignon & Sliders??) = Delish!!! Sliced thin juicy filet melts in your mouth.
I had best Ruben EVER!!
Topped it all off with Strawberry Shortcake Biscuit & gourmet cup of Hot Chocolate.
Amazing experience. If we lived here would be a weekly stop. If you do live near, count yourself most fortunate.
