Located on university, it's on the corner, so it's pretty easy to find. Supposedly, this is the corporate location I tried calling, and they do not answer the phone at this location.
We went to the drive-through, and it was kind of hard to understand the young lady That was working their speaker system is not very clear.
We just relocated about three months ago to the area. We do not have a cook out where I am from. My husband said that he wanted to try a burger. So we thought we would give it a try.
The wait was not too long in the drive-through. You pick a burger, and then you pick 2 sides and a drink.
I chose a chili cheeseburger with cheese curds and Hush puppies. first the burger was really good! The only downside was that my patty was not cooked all the way. There was pink inside, and any time that I looked at uncooked meat in a burger, it makes me sick. Thank goodness this was the last thing that I ate. I couldn't finish it.. I am going to tell them well done on the patty the next time we visit. The cheese curds were the first thing that I ate they were hot and fresh. They are kind of like little minnie mazzarella sticks. The cheese is creamy And the texture on the outside is similar to beer batter. They are so good!! Was expecting the hush puppies to be a little bit better, more like what you get at a seafood restaurant. They were hot out of the fryer. I believed that the batter needed More garlic powder and onion powder Also a little bit more corn mill because they were kind of bready and not alot of flavor. I would say they are closer to a dense corn bread ball. Next time i'm gonna get double cheese curds š„°
My husband said that his Burger was really good. He ate it all... His 2 sides were cheese curds and french fries. I could see the seasoning on the fries. He said they reminded him of fries back home 'cajun fries' he really liked them. I didn't get to try them. They did look good and they were fresh. He also ordered a chocolate milkshake and I tried it it was really good. I think it's made with Hershey's chocolate. Because it was a really good quality, very creamy. Definitely get a spoon because it is very thick.
Overall we gave five stars because the food was really good and we are planning on going back. If you're looking for a place with a really good burger, you should definitely give them a try!

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell, here we go. The cookout was interesting. The vibe is cool and the staff is very helpful. It takes a few minutes to decide platter or alacarte. The platter is $5.39 and it's comes with several options. Main entree, 2 sides or double sides likes fries and a drink, coke float,or bottled water. For $1 extra you can. Get a shake in any of the 43 flavors.
April, our cashier, was very helpful. We both chose the double burger and she asked what toppings, we added bacon, because everything is better with bacon. ton to the sides and drink. My two sides - nuggets, fries and bottled water and my hubs chose the chicken quesadilla for both his sides and a chocolate shake. The cost was $15+. Wow!
The burger was good. Cooked very well, nice sear, and great flavor. Patty about the size of double cheese burger. I agree with most the size of the onion was alot for the burger, but I love onion. Yeah, my breath stinks and I love it. It's was a good fast food burger.
The sides - there were 3 nuggets and a handful of fries, which were enough. Those nuggets we're delicious. I wish there were more of them. Yum! April, the cashier, said I could add chili, cheese or just cheese or a Cajun seasoning to the fries if I like but I just chose plain fries.
Quesadilla - ok chicken was barely there tasted like a grill cheese sandwich with Velveeta or a cheese spread. It's a good option for kids. Hubby ate both of his without complaint. I tasted it but it was a no for me. It was like a flour tortilla spread with cheese and a little chicken folded in half.
The chocolate shake was very good.Very good. I almost needed a spoon.
The star of the meal was definitely the burger and the shake. The prices are super cheap hot dog, corn dog, etc $1. Double burger is $3. Great place for families and a quick bite on the go. The platter is, in my opinion, the best deal. You get to try anything and everything for under $7.
I'll definitely check it out again at least...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a Student at the University of South Alabama, you could easily say that my situation is different from that of the average persons. However I think no matter where you are in life, we can all agree that the restaurants you'll go back to time and again are those that share three common elements. They are inexpensive, good, and the staff is hospitable. I must say that Cook Out meets all of these requirements adequately. Is the food the best in the world, no, no it is not. But then again, Cook Out is an inexpensive fast food joint, the point is not to serve up food that would make Gordon Ramsey nod in approvement. If you desire your food to taste like a five star meal then I suggest that you go to a restaurant with a rating that reflects that. Anyways, to the point, my Out West Burger was excellent. The fries not so much, but my friend pointed out that the only side you should get is the Fried Cheese Curds. He was not wrong. They have Cheerwine as a beverage option, which was a definite plus for me, being a serious addict to anything cherry. My Cheesecake Milkshake was also good, not the best, but still adequately good. I cannot answer for everyone, but I can say that I will be a return customer to Cook Out. It fills a gap that is needed over close to South and is the perfect place for a college student...
