ellenJAY Bakery — Restaurant in Mobile

Update: I changed my rating because I placed a pre-order on Sunday for pickup on Wednesday. The pick up window is 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. When I arrived my order was not ready. They told me it would be another 30 minutes because they were baking. They could have text or called to say that the order would not be ready or that it would be delayed. I emailed and called after I left the bakery. I received a email at 7:02 p.m. that I could pick up the items that I ordered the following day. When I called the bakery directly, I left a voicemail and I never received a call back. The Sammies are good the customer service could have been a much better. I see in other reviews that they do text or call when the ordering is delayed, maybe they only do that for regular customers. ellenJay is amazing, just amazing!!

I'm not usually in Midtown but today I decided to make a special trip to ellenJay.

It's hard to resist this adorable Bakery boutique because customer service is wonderful and the Buttercream Peanut butter Sammies, Lemon Tea Cakes and that Sweet Potato cupcake are out of this world.

I decided to get a few things because I'm not on that side of town often and I'm so glad I did. It took me a few days to get through everything and it was definitely worth it.

As I entered, I was greeted by a smiling eyes and display case of baked goodness. It was hard for me decide what to order, so I asked to recommendations.

I can't remember the lady's name and she had a mask on so it's hard to recognize if she was one of the owners. But she was so very helpful and friendly.

She recommended the Sweet Potato cupcake. She said it was a customer favorite and after taking one bite, I know why. Next, the Buttercream Sammy, I chose the Peanut Butter because its.. peanut butter and I love peanut butter. I've had Sammies before but this one is by far the best. The buttercream was light and the cookie was absolutely perfect. It is everything you hope a Peanut Butter cookie would be and so much more. I'm a huge fan of lemon and she said the Tea cake was a moist cookie with a bold lemon flavor and she was right. It was delicious.

I LOVE ELLENJAY! We used them for our wedding cake table because their Sammies are my absolute FAVORITE food! It was such a fun and enjoyable experience working with Jennifer and Lauren. They have THE best cookies! I love them so much I can honestly say they are my FAVORITE food! I am from Leroy, AL, which is about an hour and a half away from Mobile, AL and I cannot make a trip to Mobile without a stop at ellenJAY. My mother was diagnosed with stage four cancer in April and I have gone on and on about their cookies to her. I stopped by ellenJAY per usual when I am in Mobile, except this time I was getting my mom a cookie to try while she was in the hospital there. I got there on a day ellenJAY was closed and all I told them was that I want a cookie. They opened the doors to me that day when they did not have to and I was able to share with my mother my favorite food! It made both of our day! The cookies and the people there are so amazing! I’m guessing I caught them at a bad time because I walked in and there was no clear understanding as to where the goods were located and where I would need to pay for them. There was a lady on the phone who immediately walked away when I entered the building, so after standing there momentarily, I decided to follow her path — not realizing she was a staff member going into the kitchen! After a bit of awkwardness, a kind clerk assisted me and shared that they were making some changes. Nevertheless, the supply was a bit small, and they didn’t have cupcakes; but my sweet tooth was relentless, so I indulged. I purchased red velvet cake in a jar and a chocolate chip Sammie with buttercream icing. Unfortunately, the buttercream for both desserts lacked butter. It was too sweet for my liking and didn’t have the texture I’m accustomed to. Further, the chocolate chip cookies were not very tasty. They seemed pretty dry and tasted as if they were at least a day or two old. I wish I’d had the experience so many others seemed to have had!
