I first went to Mudbugs about two years ago and I ordered a fried seafood platter with shrimp, crab claws, oysters, and fish. It was really AWFUL. It had hardly any seasoning and tasted very bland. The breading was falling off and I paid over twenty dollars cash for it. Fast forward...This weekend my husband and I went there an ordered a steamed, mild pan of snow crabs, lobster tails, red shrimp, potatoes, corn, and sausages. The owner told us that we would really enjoy the red shrimp rather than the other shrimp so we decided to try them out. They tasted gritty and weren't good at all. The best thing was that they were really easy to peel. The whole platter barely had ANY seasoning or flavor and the corn wasn't all the way done. We were very disappointed in the food especially since we paid almost a hundred dollars CASH for it. The only thing that we enjoyed was the free slice of red velvet cake that we received because of the amount of our purchase. And both times the wait time to receive our food was very long. Unfortunately, this is our last time visiting Mudbugs.
Response to Owner's Response...I said what I said and what you're not going to do is TRY to come for me like I wanted to waste my time to come down there to get more bland food to replace the bland food that we had already got. This is my review of my honest opinion and evidently it I didn't feel as though your seafood nor seasoning was going to be up to par to waste more of my time to come get that garbage. We charged that $100 to the game and going back to our regular seafood spot where we spend just as much every week for our seafood Friday. Just like you have to accept the good reviews, you have to accept the not so good reviews with a positive mind and attitude because I'm not the one for you to come at with your piss pour attitude. What you should've stated was to call the store so have my order replaced instead of giving...
Read moreIt was my first time ordering crawfish here and I don’t usually eat crawfish (ask anyone who knows me well) but I heard they weren’t bad here and I wanted to share them with my friends and family. We ordered steamed seafood and went home to eat. 100$ worth of crawfish and crab legs. Half way through my bf found 2 huge bugs in the tray. Well after that we couldn’t stomach to eat the rest. I wrote about what happened on their Facebook msg page and sent a video clip of what we couldn’t eat, including the bugs we found. They were already closed that’s why i didn’t call. That was Sunday night. Monday they were closed. Tuesday they viewed it but no word or reply back. Wednesday I wrote again and asked if they were going to rectify the situation and the automatic msg popped up saying to call for further information, so i did. I talked to who i assume was the manager. She was already on the defense and super rude. She said to get any refund i had to bring back what i couldn’t eat. Well that information isn’t anywhere on the website and it was Sunday so how could I call to receive the information when needed. I’m not going to dig in my trash by now. She also told me it was normal to find bugs in the food sometimes Bc it’s from the swamp. Sometimes people find turtles, bugs, etc. ok well I don’t eat crawfish often so i asked some customers (i work with the public) if they ever found bugs in their cooked crawfish. They all said no. Needless to say that was the first and last time buying from them again and i was so disappointed with her attitude towards me when i did nothing wrong and i was very polite the whole time. If you want to eat here so be it, but i didn’t thing MudBUGS...
Read moreAs soon as we saw the outside of this place I thought it might MAYBE be overhyped. Then going inside and seeing the handrails ready for very long lines - yup, perhaps touristy, definitely hyped hard! So here goes…
We ordered the 4 fish dinner with crab claws, shrimps, oysters, and fish (all fried) along with the gumbo and 2 pounds of crawfish. The gumbo was very good. Not too spicy. The crawfish was also very good. If you’ve never had crawfish, just think of a tiny lobster. All the fried food, while a touch similar, was very good and the breading was actually tasty, not just there. All in all, it’s well worth a visit, but the food isn’t night and day better than other seafood places in the area and it’s definitely not inexpensive.
Beware that there could be a wait of 15-30 minutes for your order to be prepared, so with a long line, you could be there a while. Also, we visited at 4 PM on a Saturday, so while it was steady, it wasn’t busy. The fish we ordered was catfish but I’m pretty sure we got flounder. We got fries instead of the okra we ordered. We didn’t get our drinks. And a number of the shrimps (both fried and in the gumbo) were not completely shelled as we spit out some shell and tail a few times. This tells me that popularity and volume means more than quality and accuracy. It’s unfortunate since the latter is far more important to me, if...
