Papapavlo's Mediterranean Bistro & Bar — Restaurant in Modesto

My husband and I have been to Papapavlos so many times over the past 7 years and each time has been great! The food is delicious and the staff are always pleasant! this is not mine and my wifes writing..but it reflects our 2 years of coming to this establishment..not this evening..It is Saty nite, and my wife and I are out from a dance recital that are great grand nieces performed.. so far so good...so for a xlnt glass of wine and a nice appy...head to Papapavlos...Xlnt the door says Fri / Saty 10 pm Close..plenty of time..so in we go to one of our big Fav's.. note it is 8:55 pm.......walk in.. We are greeted at the door by one of the staff we are not familiar with..she looks at her WATCH and we ask are we okay on time. she exclaims that the kitchen closes at 9pm..we asked about the door saying 10 pm..well we were told that " it is COVID hours".....so we go to get seated..and I asked the waitress if we were imposing on the kitchen..(the wife and I are NOT those kind of people)...and we were told "we still have a few orders in the kitchen to go"...the tone and entire demeanor of the waitress...seemed like we were imposing... my wife exclaims that the waitress did not seem to care about us, and remarked about the tone in her voice.. yah know what= We were done..we supported them thru Covid with to go orders and did outside seating..we did not fail them..but our server sure failed us.... the server/waitress came back with waters... and I told her we would be leaving as if we were imposing on her..I left it at that..no I am sorry for any misunderstanding...on her part...nor the non corrected hours on the website nor the front door,,,, our experience has always been wonderfulllll. and staff always professional and light hearted....the cooks "knock it outtah the park" every time..The wife and I are in mild shock so to speak with the entire ordeal..And have already promised our Niece that we would take her next week for her...

My wife, my daughter and I went to have dinner about an hour ago and ended up walking out after not being attended nor greeted 25 minutes after being seated. My wife went inside to speak to whoever was in charge and the manager practically begged us to give them another chance. We decided to give them another chance and sat back down just to wait some more and to find out we were handed the lunch menu. They also never gave us a childrens menu. We were ready to order nearly half an hour now while the manager insisted on having the chefs make us something from the lunch menu rather than having us even glance at the dinner menu. She even had the audacity to laugh about it when she realized the we had the wrong menu. We ended up leaving. The manager attending to us even had the nerve to be sassy and have a condescending attitude towards us. We tried calling in regards to acquiring the restaurant owner's name and contact information but kept getting back sass from the manager. She even gaslighted my wife when she called saying she was cursing at her when my wife was being very calm and collective when addressing the issues we had. The manager also refused to tell us her name as well. We felt very discriminated and felt we were treated like second class citizens. When we first got there, it wasn't even busy. We kept seeing several other customers being served that were seated after we had arrived. As we were leaving, the manager also had the nerve to say "fine if you're going to leave us a bad review", so here's your bad review. You definitely need to be retrained or find another job where you dont have to deal with customer service because apparently it's not your specialty. In conclusion, the service was aweful and the manager was very obtuse. 0/10...

For our anniversary I decided to surprise my wonderful amazing lady to a place I had heard was a special place in Modesto Papapavlovs. We got dressed and drove 30 minutes to have what we expected would be a great evening experience on our special day. We both dressed in our Sunday best and headed out. Upon arriving we noticed what looked like dog poop right next to the front door. Staff was walking by it as they handed food to some people just outside. We tried our best not to think of it and walked in and were seated next at a table at the front by the window and right by the poop outside. A short latina server sat us and brought us water and someone else brought us some pita bread then we were ignored for the next 20 minutes as the staff including the cooks ignored us. The staff stayed busy folding napkins and silverware but did not come to take our order or acknowledge us. The kitchen staff giggled, laughed and took phone calls all the while looking at us from afar. To say we were devastated is an understatement. We text a few friends asking how long they thought was acceptable to wait on a waiter and they urged us to leave. We waited a full 20 minutes for someone, anyone to acknowledge us but to no avail. This was a very disheartening idea. We felt targeted, insulted and made to feel very small all the while staff laughed and giggled and took phone calls. I wish this feeling on no one especially on a Sunday when we were trying to celebrate and create fond memories of our time.
