I recently had the opportunity to dine at Dragon China Restaurant in Johnstown, Ohio, and while my experience with the food was largely positive, I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the establishment.
Upon entering Dragon China, I was immediately greeted by the enticing aroma of authentic Chinese cuisine. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with traditional decor that added to the overall charm of the restaurant. Despite the slightly dated furnishings, the place had a character that hinted at its long-standing presence in the community.
The menu was extensive, featuring a wide variety of dishes, from classic favorites like General Tso's Chicken and Kung Pao Shrimp to more unique options that showcased regional specialties. I decided to start my meal with the Hot and Sour Soup, which was rich and flavorful, with the perfect balance of spice and tang. It was a comforting way to begin the meal and set high expectations for what was to come.
For my main course, I opted for the Mongolian Beef, while my dining companion chose the Sweet and Sour Chicken. The Mongolian Beef was tender and perfectly cooked, with a generous portion of green onions and a savory sauce that was both sweet and slightly spicy. It was served with a side of steamed rice that complemented the dish beautifully. My companion's Sweet and Sour Chicken was equally impressive, with crispy battered chicken pieces bathed in a vibrant, tangy sauce that was a delightful contrast to the fried rice it came with.
While the food was undoubtedly the highlight of the visit, I couldn’t help but notice the cleanliness of the restaurant, which left much to be desired. As I looked around, I observed that some tables were not adequately cleaned after previous diners, and there were crumbs and spills that seemed to have been overlooked. The floors appeared to need a thorough sweeping, and the restrooms, while functional, could benefit from more frequent cleaning and maintenance.
This lack of attention to cleanliness was concerning, especially in a restaurant setting where hygiene is paramount. It created an uneasy feeling, as I found myself more focused on the cleanliness issues than fully enjoying the wonderful flavors of the food. While I understand that restaurants can get busy, a consistent effort to maintain cleanliness is essential for creating a pleasant dining experience.
Aside from the cleanliness concerns, the service was commendable. Our server was friendly and attentive, ensuring that our drinks were refilled and checking in on us throughout the meal. The food was served promptly, and the staff was knowledgeable about the menu, offering helpful suggestions when we were deciding what to order.
In summary, Dragon China Restaurant in Johnstown, Ohio, offers delicious and authentic Chinese cuisine that is well worth the visit. The flavors and quality of the food are commendable, making it a great choice for anyone craving Chinese dishes. However, the restaurant needs to improve its cleanliness standards to create a more pleasant dining environment. If you can overlook a few cleanliness issues, you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic meal that showcases the rich flavors of Chinese cooking. I hope to see improvements in this area during my next visit, as I would love to return for another delightful...

Been here since I was a child - I could see it from my house, every Wednesday was Dragon China night w/ my family (when we still sat at the table and ate together).
Lunch specials are great. Food is great. The owners/staff are great, pretty sure I've never seen them take a day off.
I've been eating here since 2000. I have never known a more friendly and comfortable Chinese takeout than Dragon China in Johnstown, Ohio. I see it as a part of our community before it blossomed and grew.
I have tried many other takeouts - their General Tso's is quite possibly the best I've had. The sauce has a wonderful, tangy, spicy kick - and the chicken is always delicious.
When I am looking for a healthier and veggie heavy option, the Vegetable Lo Mein and Steak w/ green peppers and onions - they satisfy my crunchy addiction. Oh, and the egg rolls - I always order extra.
They are local, they will come to recognize you and remember you. In fact, I've been going there so frequently the nice woman (owner) always asks me how my day is, how school is going & if I work that day - granted, her English isn't perfect, but she makes an effort to strike a conversation.
Don't be afraid to give it a shot if you live in the Johnstown area. It's local, it's tasty and you will always hear "10 minutes, Okay?" - and damnit, it's going to be ready when you get there.
Been going there for over 15 years - I will miss it...
Read moreThe food is okay at best. The prices are outrageous. The portions are mediocre. The service is less than courteous. The restaurant is dirty and gross. It's run of the mill strip mall Chinese restaurant that's on the really low end of clean. They make NO Effort to even try to Decorate or even straighten up the cluttered mess everywhere. Their tone is one of condescension and annoyance toward questions or special requests like "no peas".
The only reason this place is in buisness and charging what they are is because they're the only restaurant of their kind in Johnstown and people what Chinese food and don't want to cook every night.
Their pricing should be criminal. I hope this little city gets some more restaurants so this place can learn to not...
