We are new to the area and it's rather rural, so we looked online to find a kid/family friendly place to stop for dinner while running errands. This restaurant popped up claiming something for everyone and comfort food. I read on and it said it was Chinese buffet with quite a few American choices. Well with 3 adults and six kids it sounded perfect. I was excited for Chinese food is my all time favorite! I was leary as we pulled into the parking lot of this old rundown restaurant. I don't judge so we decided to try it since they claimed to have such a great variety. I was taken aback as we entered. The place was not very clean, they crammed us around two small tables with no room to move even though there was plenty of seating. It was like a small house with 3/4 seating & 1/4 food tables. I was not going to let that interfere with my love of Chinese food. When I went with my grandson to dish up our food I was shocked. There wasnt the foods they said online, no American foods, the Chinese food I only took one bite of my absolute favorite fried rice & my stomach flipped. Any of the chicken, beef or shrimp dishes had either tiny pieces of meat or tiny pieced of meat with so much of this breading I've never seen before. Well quite a few of the kids as well as myself had fruit from what was supposed to be a salad bar as well as Jello and pudding. We were all very hungry, but we really couldn't eat any of the Chinese food at all, and since there wasn't any of the American dishes advertised available it came down to can peaches, can pineapple, canned mandarin oranges, hard cantaloupe, cottage cheese, & Jello. My daughter(30yrs) wanted Safeway Chinese all week was giving me shocked & upset looks from the other end of the table the whole time. My son ate three things & was Most dissatisfied & he eats most anything at 6'4" - 275lbs. We were not there very long. My daughter paid the $70 check & we left. Needless to say we will never ever go back there again. Every one of us was sick all the way home and had to stop for restrooms. We were running for the restroom again when we got home. My eldest grandson vommitted on the way home and now it's 3am and most of us have been sick all...
Read moreRegrettably, Golden City Buffet earned Silver status this visit. I arrived at 7pm, there was hardly anyone there beyond another couple. The waitress sat me down and took my drink order of water but was not seen often through my meal. Selection is not large which was nice. General Tsao Chicken has nice flavour and so did the other chicken dishes I tried including Chicken on a Stick, Peanut Chicken, Salt & Pepper Chicken, and the Teriyaki Chicken. Beef with Broccoli was tough to chew, but nonetheless still good. The coconut shrimp was sticky to chew and the buttered seafood was a bit dry (some of the shrimps still had their tails to them), though the bacon wrapped shrimps were divine! The Crab Ragoons a bit overdone, the first few were dried out, but the second few were nice and warm. A constant during my meal was many items not hot, only warm if at best. I had one of the sweet rolls, it was warm and soaked up the oil it was friend in. There was a variety of deserts including apple pie, cupcakes, actual cake slices, mini peanut butter cookies, and soft serve “ice cream”. The apple pie broke the moment I picked it up and had a bitter flavour (think of a cleaning chemical sprayed near you) and I had to dispose of it, the cupcake frosting was delicious but the cake itself was dry. The cake slice had rich chocolate flavour while the peanut butter cookies had more of the peanuts than peanut butter flavouring. The soft serve “ice cream” was sour (think vanilla frozen yogurt) with candy toppings leftover from Valentine’s day (they had those candy hearts with messages on it!) Overall, personally I might not return soon to Golden City; however, I encourage you to try them out for yourself and see how you like them, especially if you’re in town for the...
Read moreHonestly I don’t know how this place hasn’t been shut down by the health department… the family is sweet but the place is filthy and I’m pretty sure the family lives in the banquet room in the back…. Ordered take out which has been safe until today… $50 of food tossed in the trash after eating 3 bites I was overcome with cold sweats within 20 minutes, multiple trips to the can, and now hours later crippling stomach cramps if I stay out of ER with how bad I feel it will be amazing. Stacks of filthy fish tank parts and the room the get drinks from stacked with boxes upon boxes, the wife visits every food pantry and food share in town and that’s why the noodles in the LO main change so frequently and why the veggies within many dishes change from day to day, I’m all for being resourceful but it’s morally corrupt to serve ppl that pay to keep you in business food that’s past dates, and taken from charities that are giving to feed those in need not people trying to save on their food orders while making profit off of generosity of charities in town…I haven’t eaten from buffet in years but the ordering ala Carte was fresh n hot but unfortunately several family members are down with bad tummies ( severe cramping, nausea and the need...
