Heard really good things about this place, decided to try. Unfortunately the wings were honestly the worst wings I've had in Montgomery. I'm somthing of a wing enthusiast. Worked in many restaurants in my youth, including a pretty popular wing spot so I say w confidence they were cooked in old burnt up grease/oil. All I could taste was stale grease. The chicken meat was so cooked that the meat itself was stringy and crunchy, meaning the inside was. Seemed like maybe they were halfway cooked then left in the basket til an order came, then redropped the rest of the way(I know this style from one of the restraunts I worked at that had busy lunches so theyd do this trick to save time fry a bunch halfway then redrop per order, but imo it ruins the flavor and meat texture). After 2 wings my stomach got nauseated so i chilled out, then after an hour ate a few more, 6 in total out of the 16 i ordered. Got super queezy & layed down on the couch..thats when i decided to get online and leave a review because when I looked this place up the page said they cook every order fresh or somthing to that extent. Was disappointed because I'd been lookin for a good spot to grab some wings when I dont feel like cooking, but maybe I just tried them at a time when they were having an off day. Regardless I'm not going to try again since the old grease made me sick. Always feels a bit disrespected to pay for food cooked in old oil. Really wished the experience was a better one but I'm going to lay here until this feeling in my stomach subsides and have some frozen yogurt to settle it...well that was...
Read moreOk, so I'll start with strictly me. I don't eat wings. I had the fried shrimp with a side of their teriyaki sauce. The shrimp was cooked almost perfectly. They DID NOT over cook them like so many other places to the point of turning them into rubber. They were also not raw. Teriyaki sauce to dip instead of cocktail may have changed my whole outlook on how I dip my shrimp for the rest of my life.
Second, everyone else had wings of course and they all loved them. The biggest point is one order of wings was requested with "Extra seasoning" and man, they F'ed them up with the garlic pepper and my buddy was about to start crying they were so good.
I went twice in two days and both times the staff was nice enough (Sort of short because... Well, they are working their tails off trying to get the food out. I get it!) and the lines did seem a bit long for drive thru, but when we went I swear the way it was moving they could almost give Chik-fil-a a run for their money. Food was clearly cooked fresh, but man they were getting it out to ya!
I will probably eat here again every single day for a month until I burn myself out on seafood and noodles.
UPDATE 3-11-22 : Went again last night and the line for drive thru was long as always. I sat in the line for maybe 5 to 10 minutes before a nice young lady eased out of the side door with a tablet and started taking orders from that. That Chik-fil-a comment really aged like fine wine here. Still great food. If you want extra seasoning you can apparently tell them how many times extra. The ones from before were 5x-6x I...
Read moreAL Wings has a unique menu to say the least, and with a line that often spills onto the main road, I'd often wondered what the hype was. After 8 on a Tuesday, the line was still a long wait, but the food was definitely made-to-order as claimed, so I doubt you'd ever get stale food here. I ordered the honey BBQ boneless wings combo, upgrading the fries to the chicken hibachi noodles (lo mein) and a lemonade. The chicken itself was nice enough, no chunks of fat or anything. The honey BBQ sauce is very good, one of the better ones I've had compared to other places and brands. The chicken lo mein was surprisingly good, better than some Chinese-food-dedicated restaurants in Montgomery serve. I mention the lemonade because it was mixed very well, a bit more on the sour side, which is refreshing since most places make it very sweet. My boyfriend ordered the spicy teriyaki sauce on his wings and upgraded to shrimp fried rice. The spicy teriyaki isn't very spicy at all, but the extra kick made it better than plain teriyaki would have been, so it's a good flavor. The rice was oddly sweet, especially the eggs mixed in it. Not bad at all, but sweet fried rice was new. Long story short, I don't think I'd wait in line for this often, but if you can go at an odd hour when the line is short or you have a group in your car split between wanting wings or Chinese food, I'd...
