I live in the area and have family visiting in town. Since they do not have a car I told them about this cool little restaurant/ store they could walk to from my home near Old Cloverdale Park. Upon walking the short distance my brother entered the store and what happened next was appalling. I recognize that there is prejudice in this world, but didn't recognize it was so nearby. My mother, who walked over with the doggie stood outside as my brother entered the Filet and Vine, only to be asked "do you have money to shop in here?" Those appalling words were the words that came out of the employee's mouth. The first words spoken to my brother as he entered the store. My brother is slightly mentally disabled and did not necessarily understand the intent of your harsh words, but I sure do. He was stereotyped, ridiculed, humiliated and discriminated against. I am saddened and disgusted about the behavior of this worker. How in the world do you think you have the right to treat people in such a way and to disrespect another human being the way you did my brother? I don't know which employee you are but you know who you are. I curse you and pray for you all at the same time. Your actions were inhumane, despicable, unacceptable and illegal. It is unfortunate that people like you still exist and display...
Read moreThis is NOT a Black-owned Soul Food restaurant even though it's in a prodomitly Black neighborhood. Disappointed is an understatement. Got this recommendation from our hotel for a good "soul food" place which couldn't be furest from the truth. Food was bland & unseasoned at best, green peas/green beans seemed poured right out the can, heated and served, meat/fish did look good & fresh but is flavorless, corn bread was dry and like hockey pucks, tarter sauce was not made from scratch and the sliced cake seemed to be box cake also not from scratch. Sandwiches 🥪 were not available despite a full list of them on the menu. And if you're ordering catering from here, the lemonade is NOT fresh squeezed, it's Minute Maid from the soda machine with a few pieces of old lemon slices, that are sitting out, on the counter, by the ice tea canisters, just dropped in the gallon jug & shaken up. Lastly, no one on the line was wearing gloves and was handling hot food. In short, this is basic cafeteria style food at a...
Read moreFirst visit and learned this establishment is a local spot for homestyle cooking and/or wine bar. 🍷 So many options to choose from - casseroles, cold and hot bar. Make it an outing and meet with friends for lunch or an early happy hour. You may also pick up groceries here to take home. We visited on a weekday midday for lunch around 1:30pm and the selections were half gone. There was a sign that sandwiches were not currently available. Nonetheless, there are so many other options to choose from. We enjoyed our selection of 1) chicken marsala with sides and 2) a veggie plate. Surprisingly, everything was tasty. I highly recommend going with the jalapeño cornbread with your meal. Even if you choose not to eat from the hot bar, there are prepared salad options among other things as well. Desserts and beverages are also available. I look forward to returning and possibly trying the breakfast buffet on Saturday from 7-10am. In addition to visiting for the wine tastings on Thursdays. 🍷...
